New hitch
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:39:06 PM »
Hello all,

I am researching which hitch to go for. Ideally i would like to keep the tow ball, but dont want anthing that rattles around like the standard hitch that i have on it.

Has anyone had anything to do with the new al-ko offroad hitch?

I have seen some highland hitches also.. any good?

I dont have any objection to changing my ball to a poly block.... it just seems more convenient?

Thoughts?

thanks.
Kent

We have a DO35 & find it easier than the AT35. You might also check out "Mchitch" or "Ozhitch" and there are some others.

Just make sure to buy "Australian" [keeping Aussies employed] & make sure it has the necessary AS compliance data.

To reduce the "Pain in the @rse" factor, we bought a 2nd tow tounge - one for the CT & the other with the standard 50mm ball.

I changes from a Polly block to a ozhitch and could not be happier. Like Hem I have another tongue for the camper.

Another vote for the ozhitch, we had the poly block on our old soft floor camper.
Now that I've had the ozhitch I'd never go back. It's easy to hook up and unhook on uneven ground and is very well made.
Like the others I have a spare tongue with tow ball installed for quick change over.

Gday,

Ive got the alko one in the pics.It took a couple of goes to get used to it but its really simple to use after that.I did bust one of the red bits you can see in the photo but it still operated fine and was replaced free of charge, posted to my door. All in all very happy with it.
I dont mind going to work, its the 8 hours  i have to wait to go home again that annoys me.

This new one  - http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=14435.0 - came up a while ago in the showroom floor. Looks to be a good design and got a great review in a recent magazine test.

We have a DO35 and love it also.

This thread might be of interest to you as it is a poll of the hitches that fellow myswaggers have.

Ive had the Hiland Hitch on the last camper and now currently have the alko( the one you have pictured). Although I haven't done a trip in it yet, (just localy) the little I have used it I wish I spend my money more wisely getting a hiland hitch. I'll be selling it as soon as I get back from september trip.I personally Wouldn't recomend them.
