What happened to just using a magazine, newspaper or stick to join two snatch straps together?

Just Straps make the snatch strap joiners, they go in between the two linked straps and look a lot like these  ;D . We had one slip sideways during one of the recoveries last Cape Trip and it too became stuck in the knot, but most of the time them seem to work.

Note.......................the Crownie bottle cap is for size comparison only

We are flash these days mate!

We joined three straps together to slingshot people through Nolans, so I don't think the old magazine or newspaper would have held up to being dunked.  Stick would have worked though.

There will be dedicated recovery vehicles on the trip ( myself included) as well as the mob pulling camp trailers. A winch is only on the want list not the need list.

I should have my winch rebuilt by then and have the big boots on the cruiser so I'm happy to do the same.

Just for those readers who might wonder about the magazine, newspaper or stick statement,
These items can be used to stop the straps from
Binding together so tight it's impossible to seperate them.

Cheers mate, good point. I might have confused some with that statment. Thanks for clearing that up. This has worked for me for many years of wheeling......

For joining snatch straps I use a small section of dowel and a velcro strap to hold it in place. I'm not a fan of using anything compressible as after a hard snatch recovery it can become difficult to unbind.

Not that much to do to my vehicle just a few items to get. Would a small blue tarp suffice as a car bra?

Cheers Rod.... 8)

If you can I would suggest you get  car bra. Both me and Frostd used the tarps and I had one occasion where it lifted up due to the length of the crossing. For Nolans we borrowed one and not only was it so much quicker to put on but did a better job creating that bow wave as well.

just my opinion though. No real issues either way

Just a note that this is not guaranteed, I have had two straps still bind up to the point of being unseparable when using a newspaper.  Ended up cutting the older of the two strapes to get them apart :'(

i have just ordered the joiners, and i got a equaliser while there, the only thing i don't have the list apart from the winch is the bra now, so i am getting there, starting fitting new Mickey T's ATZ 4 ribs this week, by time the trip comes around i hope to have a new bulbar and winch.

look like i will have to change my signature for the iPhone tapatalk, didn't realise it brought up a map of the location..

cheers

I have one but never really use it because of the space they take up. Hence I just carry a tarp now and the tarp can be used for various things, multiple use. I cable tie it to the bulbar. Car bras are bulky. If you must have one the one I posted up is very good. IMHO a tarp does suffice. I should have been more clear in my post, sorry.

Same boots as mine will be ;D

I think we have the same stud pattern, so will have plenty of spares for this trip!

Minimum Requirements ? = Can of worms , stock standard anything will get to Seisa on the cape depending on road used ,,, minimum this and that reminds me of when the wife  pulls up at the Middleton Pub midway between Winton and Boulia in her Kia Rio with all of 2 inches ground clearance and parks between  modified to the max Nissan patrol and a 100 series ,  loud comment from one woman to her husband ? " Tell me again why we had to spend thousands of dollars to modify our car for a trip to Boulia to see the camel races ?? "
