Post by: Heiny on September 06, 2011, 10:03:37 PM
Connecting the Wilpena and Leigh Creek Roads, this is one of the best drives through the Flinders Ranges. You will see stunning scenery featuring the southern wall of  Wilpena Pound, Black Gap Lookout, red Range, Elder Range and more.

Connecting the Wilpena and Leigh Creek Roads, this is one of the best drives through the Flinders ranges. You will see stunning scenery featuring the southern wall of  Wilpena Pound, Black Gap Lookout, red Range, Elder Range and more.
The entrance to the Drive are as follows:

24 km north of Hawker on the Wilpena Road, and
42 km north of Hawker on the Leigh Creek Road

Either way be sure to stop at the Hookina Creek crossing 16 km from Hawker on the Leigh Creek Road to see the ruins of the railway bridge. Floods destroyed the railway bridge several times, contributing to the decision to close the railway.
