G'day from Melbourne
« on: June 27, 2014, 02:47:16 PM »
G'day folks.
Seeing as I have lurking here for a while, I thought I should say G'day!
I found this forum while investigating Camper Trailers.  I'm looking to build my own - the trailer at least, and maybe the tent... we'll see...

After looking at a lot of the DIY threads here, and going to look at several brands, I know what I want (I think...)  Once I've completed a couple of other projects around the house, I'm allowed to start building the trailer.   ::)

We don't do any full-on 4WDing, so the trailer will be built to suit my needs - semi offroad.  We pretty much just go to National Parks (Waterskiing at Eildon mostly) but my current tent takes too long to set up for a weekend away.

I've designed the trailer, and the tent.  I've had the tent quoted, but as it's a one off, it's quite pricey.  My other options are to get a tent from Southern Cross, Johnno's, Outback etc, or get a group of people together that want the same tent to get a batch made to bring the cost down..

Anyway, that's my story in a nutshell.  I'm really enjoying this forum and have got a lot of good ideas from the various threads.  Thanks!

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Bird,
I've only received one estimate so far from a Canvas mob in Bayswater.  They've done a LOT of camper trailer repairs over the last 40 years and know what works and what doesn't.  However, I still want to get a couple more quotes, so the guy in Somerville might be a great place to start if you have any contact details?

Thanks for the warm welcome from the rest of you guys!  I really want to get stuck into the build!  The trailer is about 8' x 4' walk up style, with a side fold tent.  Swing out tailgate kitchen, plumbed gas, 12v and 240v, pull out storage drawers, water tank etc.  Probably nothing that hasn't been done here before, but still different enough that it won't just be a rehash of an another thread.

It'll be a few months before I get to start I reckon, so in the meantime I'll keep reading, learning and stealing ideas...   ;D

Cheers,

Chris
