Well I am thinking of getting a new front windscreen as the current screen is badly sand blasted. Should I get OE or aftermarket? :)

Why is it sandblasted? Is it from all the trips into town?

Hi mate. IMHO genuine is always best but not alwlays financially viable. Most auto glass for the Australian market comes out of china. Although their quality was poor initially they have improved greatly.
It's more important that the company/ AutoGlazier installs it correctly with the correct quality preps, primers and sikaflex adhesives. Considering that most glass within the car contribute to 1/3 of the overall structural stength.
Cheers

We had our glass replaced on the Prado after the Kimberley's through insurance company. More than happy with the quality. Unknown origin.

I have a free windscreen per year with my insurance which I have never used so I might have to get an OE screen. Is this a dealer job or do I call an onsite guy and request an OE screen?

Yup, Ring Road twice everyday...

Mate, the dealer just calls a windscreen company to install it anyway. Most insurance companies have a preferred supplier. Some insurance will approve a genuine screen if requested others will only provide aftermarket and you would need to pay the difference. Prices vary considerably dependent on company but you do get what you pay for.
I will be upfront and tell you I am a windscreen fitter by trade. Still employed by the "largest national auto glass company" where I've been working various roles for the past 18 years. If you want any specific questions answered or to help get your screen organised just send me a pm. I will then get the closest branch manager to give you a call and sort out.
