get the rust proofing re-done

My suggestion is to wait until you return from the Cape to have your rustproofing re-done as the dirt Development road is only going to remove it anyway.

Today was the day, we tested to see what the 14 switches.... yes dear, 14... do when ya turn them on.

I managed to get about half of 'em sorted before I made the prearranged call to the previous owner.
At least now, after talking to him, I know what 12 out of 14 do.

It's funny watching hazard lights working on such an old car.

I'd tried the radio a week ago and assumed it was dead... not so.

2nd last switch, on came the lights on the radio..... the electric aerial went up and next minute, clear as a bell, came that old 60's classic To Sir With Love.
Not my favourite song by a long shot, but a 1967 song from the radio was kind of cool.
That would be the first time that radio has been on in over 12 years.

We'll replace all the switches with new ones on Saturday, respray the housing and it should look a tad better.

Nice work Richo, nothing better than using something you crafted yourself.
Must be why I enjoy watching the kids do their chores so much

Is that an original panel, or something that the previous bloke did up himself ???

No, not original.... custom unit by the previous owner.

Cleaned up, should look pretty good.
Everything will be tagged when we are finished.

Well still waiting for email reply from 4wd supercentre Re warranty on single drawer. Tried ringing but that was futile.
So decided to fix them rather than wait.
The sides of the drawers is thin sheet and the weight of drawers made the bearing support bolts bend the sides in so drawer would jam.
also even though they fitted 2 bearings only 1 just made contact.
made up some fish plates to fit on outside of the frame and then replaced the bearing bolts with longer ones and added washers to move bearings in so both would take weight.
also fitted a polyurethane block on inside of frame to run along the drawer length, this stops the frame going out of square.
last pic shows the fold up work bench over top of drawer.

Today, nearly everything is made as cheap as it can be.
Often, its better and less stress to just hook in and fix it.

Your right. For the $200 they cost delivered I couldnt have made them up for that so a couple of hours work  was well spent.

My mate Dougie (auto sparky) came over yesterday.

We tidied up lots of bits and pieces.
The previous owner, also a sparky, had fitted lots of stuff, because he could.
It had the most horrible interior lights known to mankind front and back.
The rears, set up down low like a foot light, were in a turd of a spot..... they're gone now, for practicalities sake.
It also has wiring in place for a second fuel tank, from back when he popped the car in the odd rally.

We did away with a few things, (2nd tank wiring was one) changed some stuff, like now having LED interior lights, some of the switches were getting tired, and we set up the boot light again.
We were going to replace the mercury switch set up, but in the end, because it was old and pretty cool, the mercury switch stayed.

All that's left now for a roadie, is the windscreen washer motor is knackered.

Because the car has Mini Cooper style indicator assembly, hi beam in on the stalk.

But, there is still a small push button on the floor?

Turns out, if you want a quick swipe of the wipers and don't want to take ya hands off the wheel. tap the button with ya foot or hold it down for as long as you  want them on.
(would be a throw back to the rally days i'm guessing)

He didn't rally it much though, the floors and rails haven't been hammered at all.

I think, it will get some Uncle Reg on either Tuesday or Wednesday now.

Comes with a 6TPI as standard, will probably grab a 10TPI in the near future, for what I want to do that should cover, use the 6 as a rip, 10 for curves etc.
It's only a baby, 250mm throat, 103mm depth of cut.

Gotta make sure the work doesn't move, as well as hold it against the drill point to create the hole needed.

Did similar Richo, doing a 30 second job with a very sharp and pointed pocket knife, using it to drill a hole through a plastic dash blank off plate to fit a toggle switch..
Result was, Pointer finger tip on the left hand had to be sewn back on ... blanking plate broke in half oops .  :'(

You're not a metalbasher until you've drilled yourself.

Could have been worse, it could have been on your lap when you ran the drill through it.

I built a sliding gate. I'm just waiting for some bits to come back from the galvanisers before I do final assembly and get to install it.
