Title: "watched"
Post by: Nomad on March 20, 2014, 11:15:10 PM
I have noticed Lost has a "watched" icon in his title but, no one else I can find has one and I don't know what this is.
I am not trying to Shit stir but this seems new and hasn't been explained.

I noticed that when I had a blow up with B&B when he was barry , and I got blasted, that I wasn't able to see new posts, until there was a few replies, and thought this was a penalty or stabilizing thing.............but am now not sure.

Can one of the please mods explain it to me because I am a forum tard... and again I am sorry for raising it but not sure what is happening

Again not trying to be smart but just not sure what the go is.

Cheers Nomad.

It is an admin and mod related feature. If someone steps out of line they receive a warning from us, depending on the severity it is % based. To many warnings and you have a rest for a while. Think of it as a yellow or red card in soccer

It has only just been made available to us and the mention to the Lost card in some threads is in relevance to it. You are generally sent a message from the team and it allows us to be all in the loop

Could look like this under swaggers profile on LHS of the thread.

GG is there a time period attached to it? Like 3 months parole etc or is that decided by the mods?

I think the clown that came up with this idea needs to be "watched" and come out and put his /her hand up and say it was my idea.
This stinks of political correctness gone mad, it's whole aim is to publicly humiliate the person involved, nothing more. >:( >:( >:( >:(
If a member is getting out of line a couple of warnings by pm and then a simple suspension of his/her account is sufficient.
Stick that [/color]"watched" thing on my account and I'll be looking for some ferkin legal advice real quick, be warned  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

First - the "watched" function is a tool for admin and mods to be able to keep track of warnings issued. It is not as simple as a PM as this is not copied to all other mods and admin and as such no history is developed.

Second - This process has been initiated due to all the rubbish we have had to put up with and moderate over the past couple of months

Third - We know who the regular offenders are and generally a pm is given explaining the issues is sent, but when you keep offending the watched function is the next level.

Fourth - the watched function is not mearly a 'badge' that appears on a profile there is other processes that are going on in the back ground.

Fifth - I was not aware that "watched" was public, but hey, if you dont want to see, abide by the rules

Sixth - the points system for 'watched' is percentage based and it reduces at a rate of 2% per day that there have been no mod reports opened. The amount of percentage credits given itially is determined by the indif=vidual mod

Seventh - If you want to threaten me or any of the other volunteers here on this free forum with legal action, trust me, your time here will be very short indeed..........be warned

Regards, Craig

I Think everyone needs to take a breath. Ultimately the mods are trying to deal with plenty of issues/concerns/requests in the background and mostly do a fantastic job.

If you feel a person warrants a warning than as mods its your prerogative, I agree that having the watched up for all to see is not the correct approach and I'm sure the mods will review as cm4x4nut has mentioned they were not aware that it would be made public.

If we all adhere to the rules ( although everyone's perception appears different & thats why we have these difference of opinions) than nothing for any of us to worry about.

Good luck finding a lawyer to take on your dissatisfaction with a free forum.

I also think it has to do with the attitude of some of the kids with the keys.. which was discussed on the weekend away too... interesting how only one person has an issue, never heard from any others.

See you didn't need a warning, karma got you instead....lol

Hoping it's not too serious.  Do you drive a manual or auto?

As far as I am concerned, we are all guests here, we don't have a right to demand anything.
We can however ask, the rest is up to those that manage this forum. Imagine what it would be like without the admin and volunteers.

Although this has been locked i wish to back-up Craig's comments from today.

The enablement of the "watched" feature was a option that was just turned on and used. Unfortunately when the forum was setup years and years ago it was probably not configured correctly, and an older permission setting was set.

NO ONE INCLUDING THE MODERATION TEAM OR ADMINISTRATION TEAM had any IDEA that this would be pushed public on the forum. (It has since been removed to only be shown to the person that it affects or the mods) No One Else.

So This was an old setting, no one new anything, and as soon as it was discussed it was removed sensibly within a few hours (actually the moment i could dig and find the setting or a way to remove it i DID!). However no one knew it was going to go public and no one knew what settings exist.

The SMF forum has a massive amount of permissions and settings. Actually if the forum wanted to be cruel we could do an insane amount of lockdown. (like alot of other forums). However the objective has always to be open and easy.

If you've got a problems with a moderator/admin team member or just a POST, then the BEST thing to do is send them a PM, how about we stop trying to push content into the public so people can "assume" the worst.. The PM function is there to do this.
