A fair bit of stuff there, a few years back they were clearing out some similar campers, I went up and had a look at some but the prices they ended up going for, and what they needed to be finished/repaired meant the buyers wouldn't be any better off, and thats before taking into account no warranty, their time and effort to fix them and the fact that most of them had some wear and tear that wasn't really repairable.
Will be interesting to watch, the smart money is on some bidders getting auction fever and not many bargains to be had, but with the volume of stuff their might still be a few.
-
So is anyone going for a look on Tuesday or planning to bid for anything?
-
Not the camper stuff, but i'm bidding on two in the American stuff. :-X
-
Bugger it’s in Brisbane I’d love a stone protector at that price

It's underway, as expected, prices are going up quite a bit at the end, still some good prices but probably not a lot that I have seen I would class as a steal. Think this one is probably the best deal so far https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDetails.aspx?smode=0&aid=9900&lid=1595450&pgn=1&pgs=100 (https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDetails.aspx?smode=0&aid=9900&lid=1595450&pgn=1&pgs=100)

I tried my luck on a stone deflector (my max bid was capped at $55) and a gas bottle/jerry can holder unit (my max bid was also $55)
missed out on both... not fussed. I don't *need* either of them right now...
was interesting to see what some of the units with one wheel went for though...

I think some bidders might have missed the "bid per each, must take all" bit, they will be in for a bit of a shock when they get there total!
-
Unfinished and seconds quality 14' to 17' vans went between $16000 to $19500 might have been a bargain for some ..

I didn't look at theses one but went to look at some previous campers they were auctioning, seemed to be the ones with not easily repairable damage/warranty claims they were selling, they had then have had multiple bits removed (that wasn't obvious in the pics) I assume to fix others, when you sat down and did the sums they just weren't that good of a deal. There are some good deals in the "excess stock" listings though, big front toolboxes that are normally over 1K just went for about $250 and tent tops that I recently priced for about 2.5K are going for about $500-600, used ones normally go for more than that.
-
A great example of auction fever, 5 identical listings for camper trailer tents just sold for $665 then $750 then $800 then $850 then last one for $905. The later 4 buyers obviously upped what they were prepared to pay significantly in those 2 mins.
-
That’s typical of what I have seen at auctions, with multiple identical items always buy the first one, it will be the cheapest. :D

Yep.
When I bought the XK Falcon at Lloyds, I had a set "go to figure" followed by my "If I have to, to get it figure" which was a $1,000 more/higher.
Because I could see something a bit special in that car, after being the highest bidder on the Saturday, way under my "go to figure", I went up $2,500 on the Saturday afternoon, then went up another $1,000 on the Monday to my "if I have to, to buy it figure" and it took me until the following Wednesday to throw another $500 at it to buy it.
Sold it again 5 or 6 weeks later for a good profit. but it would have been better, if I'd got it cheaper of course.

had that happen at a computer auction when I was at TAFE.. auction dude explained it 10 times, a pallet of new monmitors came up (massive 14in CRT's 800x600 probably back then :D )
Then Rucky Ding bid stupid $$ and mate I was with realised he hadnt listened, so bid this bloke up and up... and Ding won - Then he pointed to the ONE monitor he wanted, and the auction bloke lost his Shit... funny to watch

didnt know they copied made them in 2012
Date of Manufacture: 06/2012
Make: Market Direct Campers
Model Name: AT10

As the DOM is 2012 not sure how much use the 2 deep cycle batteries will be?

My Lifestyle AT10 was made in April 2012, and was one of the 1st ones made, so doubt the Chinese were that quick off the mark ??
-
What's the chances of the Chinese doing such a good job of copying that they even copied the DOM as well ;D.from what I remember reading the XT10 came out shortly after the hire agent got theirs back from a long hire with evidence of all the rivets being drilled out and then replaced.

They bought one off LCT, then supposedly shipped it to China and even shipped it back, then sold it.
I found a vid from dec 2013, so that might be approx when they 1st came out.

just what you’d want, a trailer that’s been flogged over some pretty harsh country. Watching the new series on the weekend, reckon I saw that MDC trailer on the show airbourne atleast a few times as that new guy flogged it over those washouts.

Hey RP, Is Simon still there or is there three now, I saw that one where they lost the quad out of the tinny that was always going to happen one day, Craig

still Jason and Simon on the show, but they had some other guy along from somewhere (might have been a sponsor maybe I think I heard them say?)...whoever he is, he’s a big fan of the right pedal when it comes to 4wd’ing style.
-
Thanks RP, Yes no need for that you just brake gear, From what I have heard Jason is pretty demanding on sponsors thats why you see them with different ones all the time. Craig

I was told by someone on the inside, that TJM dropped them a year or so ago, because they couldn't tell TJM what the plan was for that coming season as far as where they were going etc.

Not too many players who would front the kind of cash they would be after, they wouldn't want to burn too many bridges.

Will be interesting to see just how much cheaper thier product actually becomes...we looked at an AusTV van a while back as we liked it’s layout, I just didn’t trust the company enough to pull the trigger and purchase one though.

The truth is now out? It has been out for a couple of years. He said from the start it was the plan to build them offshore.
-
"we will still be fitting them here with the same European sourced appliances and accessories".
Hah. Made in Australia from local and imported parts! ;D

Maybe it should be "Partially assembled in Australia from imported parts" >:D

I'm happy to be wrong. But I'm not sure that's the case here...
This is the original press release at the launch of AusRV:
https://www.caravancampingsales.com.au/editorial/details/mdc-launches-aussie-caravan-range-58431/ (https://www.caravancampingsales.com.au/editorial/details/mdc-launches-aussie-caravan-range-58431/)
"The move to local caravan manufacture will remain separate from MDC’s current importation of Chinese-built campers and hybrids, which will continue to be commissioned and certified to Australian compliance alongside the AUSRV range in Brisbane."
there is also much talk (from the owner) of expanding the workforce and the factory space to deal with the Australian manufacturing, I also know of people from other van and camper manufacturers that left their jobs and moved their families interstate to be part of the new "Australian made" ranges development and manufacture.
It looks to my untrained eye as though they made the initial run and samples in Australia, shipped some of that initial run to China for copying, then signed up Simon and Jason from All4Adventure to use their "Australian Made" vans and camper, then did a switch to Chinese manufacturing.
The other thing that confuses me... they already bring in MDC branded "off-road" caravans and hybrids from China. Why would they create a new brand, make all the first year or twos product in Australia, then switch production to China... aren't they just overlapping the MDC vans?
But like I said... happy to be proven wrong.
-

Maybe than ran out of people to copy? and then they get to blur the line between local and imported products.
-
The thing I dislike about MDC, AusRv or whatever they become, is their activity in groups, especially on Facebook. If someone posts up an issue that has been on going then they are criticised, made to feel like an idiot etc and that comes from the owner of the business. He has a group of people that will tear any one apart if they complain on social media.
Yes they have a large market share but so has Jayco and you never see the owner of jayco bagging their customers.

I’ve seen this too, the way that the owner and his employees respond to people means I’d never buy a thing off them.
-

You get some mixed reports, but that's even the case with some local manufacturers, have just read some not glowing reviews about another manufacturer that MDC liked to copy.
I think in this segment, considering the company's ability to stay afloat is probably as important as their reputation.

That magazine article contains quite a few inaccuracies. It is far from a press release. Here is a press release from a while back - again on the owner’s forum. If anyone wants to see how their aftersales backup works, again, join the forum. There aren’t any secrets. You will see claims being accepted and denied over time. Being a low to mid price brand they attract entry level campers who make entry level mistakes and some of the claims are ridiculous - as are their responses when they are denied. Then they end up somewhere like here having a bitch. You will also witness all levels of staff right up to the owner jumping all over bona fide issues and quite a lot of gratis ones as well.
-
Their market is low to mid priced range, but you would still expect a product to be reasonable quality, in a sense. Regarding issues, there is the person who has them and then the staff say it’s the customers fault, somewhere in the middle is the truth as they say.
Another thing I find amusing is the way they get the All 4 Adv guys to punish them on their trips and then promote them as tough vans. If you or I did that to them I bet we would be critised for treating the product too rough and void all warranty.
But if it helps sell their products so be it.
Personally would never have one even for free, due to the arrogance of the owner.

There is a dude on a shonky caravan group that questioned the integrity of Lifestyle camper trailers saying they are imported and not Australian made. He stole some photos from the Internet and said his piece. As soon as MDC was mentioned, he blocked those members. I said he was a ball bag and he was full of sh1t. As the owner of my 3rd lifestyle, I can vouch that they are made here, except for one that they admit is imported to remain competitive. I am now blocked too.
They have a pin agressive marketing campaign and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some under the table payments to people to defend them via social media.
