Man Flu - Real or not?
« on: June 10, 2016, 10:07:16 PM »
Had my flu shot last week, might have been a bit late, but defences working so far. Got me thinking, how bad does your family sympathise or bag you out when you get the flu?

Man Flu is very real.   far worse than the ordinary run of the mill flu your wife or girlfriend may get from time to time.   When the wife or girlfriend are suffering the effects of the flu they still manage to go to work, do their normal chores and so on; whereas, a male suffering from Man Flu is completely debilitated, unable to do anything except groan and complain.   What more proof is there?

Definitely real as I have it right now.

Just got up to take a packet of cold and flu tablets, a bottle of vitamin c, grab a crate of tissues, then I'm going back to bed for the rest of the month...
I did contemplate going to the emergency department and being admitted to the infectious desease unit as this can't be normal, but the wife thought that was a bit overboard. Heartless woman she is :(

Could be my first sicky in I don't know how long tomorrow.

No doubt "man flu" is a border line fatal infection in which the male species hovers in a dream like state barely surviving on whisky and, nothing else is important.

The women in our life need to understand and be more supportive, ie visit Uncle Dans and buy...whisky  ;D

Sounds like you've definitely got a dose of the real thing there Bird.  :'(

Had one myself several years ago - crook as a mongrel dog, aches & pains all over & so on. Went to the Doc after 3 or 4 days & his response was "Umm - Panadol, rest & come back in another couple of days if no better" Gee - thanks  >:(

Still no good so went back & he got blood test done, then back again for results. "Well, it's like this. There's 2 types of flu going round at the moment. One is just flu which most people are over in about 5 days. Sorry, but you've got the other one, which is Influenza Type A Buggered if we know what's actually wrong with you (& they were his exact words!). About 3 weeks or so" Started to come good at 3 week mark & finished about 24 days till actually back on my feet  :'(

Mate, all I can say is take it easy - & keep searching out & digging up 5 year old threads!  :D

12, 13 years ago started to get flu like symptoms, continued working, week later rat Shit, laid up in bed, ended up in A&E, diagnosed with pneumonia, decided to stay at home rather than tie up a hospital bed. Three days later back in hospital, in having a chest X-ray and had a heart attack, infection had attacked heart lining and heart was grossly enlarged. 3 weeks in hospital, 3 and a bit months of work and 12 months before I felt completely well.

Would not wish it on anyone, do everything they say and rest. Any changes in your symptoms, follow it up.

Tried makin appointment at Dr... full today/tomorrow (must be pension week)..

And if I go to hospital, I know its an agonizing 6 hours in casualty until I even get to the window to tell them whats wrong.

Go to a different doctor mate. It sounds like you need to be seen pretty quickly.
