4wd Hire In WA
« on: June 08, 2011, 02:00:54 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've got a mate in Cairns that's wanting to travel from Perth to Port Headland for their honeymoon in August.

He had a reservation with Sargent and they have now said that due to high demand from the mining industry his vehicle won't be available anymore.

He's been stuffed around by the car hire companies saying that he won't be able to take their cars to half the places he wants to see without breaking the insurance T&Cs....

Do any locals have any suggestions? Any small/private hire companies?

Or, anyone have a spare 4b and wants to earn $1500 in 2 weeks? :)

Thanks,
Bryan

Apparently its the same around alice springs as a mate found out when his GQ Petrol died - NO offroading.
I would think most of them would all have those sorta Terms.

Be interested to find out how you go though.

What about these guys. We were looking at hiring one from them and were allowed to take it to places we were travelling to.

Maybe give Andrew a call at

http://www.crikeycamperhire.com.au/packages.html

Last I was there they had fully kitted out ute back from rental and being prepped for next customer.

Won't hurt to give 'em a call.

Hi Bryan,

Is it a one-way hire he's after ?  If so then you're going to limited with the companies up here (I'm in Hedland), otherwise I'd guess you'll get slugged ~$800 to get it shipped it back to Perth.  Those being Avis, Budget, Thrifty.  There is a local mob in Hedland & Karratha, Mclarenhire but they don't have a Perth office.  These guys do a lot of mine spec vehicles therefore they need to go offroad.  Perhaps they may be needing to get a car up here.  The number is 1800 227 444.

Another suggestion would be to look at Briz or Apollo hire.  They don't have a depot here but could be worth a try.

Good luck

There is Pilbara 4WD an Corefleet here in Newman, but they also only hire mine spec vehicles. And the demand always out strips supply. I think regardless of who you hire through, going off road into this rough red dust terrain is always going to break hire contracts or pay through the nose with excess charges and exorbitant insurance excesses.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

He has made some calls to the suggested companies. Northside Rentals have new Patrols for $137/d...

Sounds like in the end though he is going to go with Thrifty as their insurance would cover dirt roads, just not "Off Road".
