Go have a listen, never auditioned one but I'd reckon it'd be pretty easy. Left right centre check.
-
l have a Philips unit that is a Blue Ray as well , paid about $300 & goes well
-
Just make sure your TV has suitable audio outputs as a lot of new TV's dont and you will need a converter.

This is the one swmbo uses.
I rarely watch tv so cant really say if its worth it or not, but if it makes her happy Im happy.
She runs hers directly off her tbox thingy.

They usually sound better than tv spks at least.....
I prefer ones with a optical in. Makes it easier, instead of changing input on tv and soundbar if your running a few hdmi devices through it. But if you have a dtv rec then better to do switching at the sound bar.less button presses and hdmi control.
Most come with a wireless sub aswell.
They wont come near a proper setup but are alot better than the tv spks thats for sure.
-
Bit pricy but we got a good deal on the Samsung HW-H751/XY when we bough our Samsung TV. Sound is pretty amazing especailly when comparing with the inbuilt speakers. Also the blutooth works well and sound bar+woofer turns on and off automatically when the TV is turned on or off.
-
Just for something different, why not a good set of bookshelf speakers?
Perhaps a set of Pioneer SP-BS22 speakers?
Sometimes, they can be a better option, depending on other components...
But I also hear that Yamaha soundbars are pretty good too...
What's your room setup like? What's your budget?
-
bose. about six hundred bucks, but absolutely phenomenal.
-
got a Yamaha one, mainly cause it was on special. yes theyre better than the speakers on the telly especially with the woofer but still not surround sound like we can have with the big Yamaha amp with stadium/concert/concert effects through the Jensen speakers
-
Bit pricey but have a look at the Sonos gear. Very versatile
-
Depends what you get it for.
I don't care about cinema grade sound effects, I just hate missing the dialogue which seems a common theme on the thin screen tvs. increasing volume just makes 'noise'.
I bought a cheap one from DSE. I have found it to be really good for my purpose and it came with the optical cord and has a learn function to respond to your tv remote so on & off and volume work using tv remote. It cost about $160 and is Yamaha from memory (it is currently packed up from our move)

We won a 42" flat screen at a local fund raiser. The picture is good enough, but the sound is crap.
Mark went to JB and bought a Sony HTCT60BT sound bar. It's in the link you posted.....the $249 one.
It goes OK. It's much better than the TV audio, but not HT standard (well, not mine anyway...). It makes the telly usable.

So.. any fresh info?
-
never really used a sound bar. i use a 5.1 surround sound. Logitech z5500. i prefer the sound all around. pretty old now but still well and truly loud enough to annoy the ferals next door.

.. but be warned - if you're anything like me you'll walk out of Selby with more stuff than you went in for.. ;D
-
I went the whole hog and put in a 6.1 systems years ago, two towers for the fronts, twin speakers box for the centre,
couple of book shelfs fo the sides and two roof mounted for the rears and massive sub.
At that time it didn't cost much more for the speakers than the bar yours looking at though the yamaha amp
was about $600 on special.
Better sound than the cimenas, all gets back to what you are prepared to spend, if yuo buy a budget
system you'll get budget sound, if you can afford a good quality surround sound setup you'll get many
many years out of it, downside is you need the space for the speakers.
-
I am looking at selling my speakers and amp. Anyone interested let me know.
Energy fronts, tall speakers with an active sub under each side, Energy rear corner speakers, Centre speaker, cant remember the brand but quality, older Denon amp which is old but a great unit

Denon are great units. I have a Denon amp. Now I think of it, it is about 15years old. You'd never know it though - awesome sound with the 5.1 set up correctly.

I actually got an SMS from them today about todays sale!

I bought the Kogan sound box as a secret Santa gift. Then I had to install it. It was reduced to about $100 but is usually around $135. It has optical feed, five speakers and a built in sub.
For the money I was impressed.
I have my own home theatre which I put together from components and I'm not suggesting that it would be anything like that, but for general tv viewing and the odd concert at tv viewing levels the sound reproduction is quite accurate.
If you are wanting a soundbar to watch movies with, don't waste your time or money. A $200 5.1 from your local electronics shop will do it better. Sound is pressure, 5.1 is pressure from around the room - simple physics. You can't fake it although Bose has been trying to for years, and you certainly aren't going to get 5.1 out of a 3ft stick and a sub. Nice sound, yes, 5.1, no. Stereo music of any quality - only if you sit 3 ft in front of the sound bar.

Aldi have a $79 soundbar on sale this Sat ... Its their Bauhn brand which is genreally good for the price.
Its 2.0 so no sub woofer.

Sonos has a terrific sound IMHO. Not cheap but you do get what you pay for so to speak. (I'm moving house and looking at buying the Sonos for the new place ... get rid of the huge tower speakers I currently have cluttering up the lounge). Maximum flexibility with the Sonos as well, you can start with a soundbar, add the sub woofer and if so inclined you can also add wireless rear speakers for full 5.1 effect. Also able to locate speakers around the home wirelessly and play same music throughout the house. A system you can build up over time. Well worth a look. Have a listen when you are in one of the general stores such as Harvey or JB.

Bird I have a Bose Solo TV that is sitting in the cupboard, used about 5 times (remote still
In plastic) but we rarely used that TV so I have no need for it. Sounds great, not. 5.1 great as it is only stereo but makes the TV sound really good and has decent bass.

I sampled a couple of soundbars recently but ended up with Pioneer based 5.1 system with Accusound speakers. Sure can rock the house ;D
All up around $1K for a system that puts the cinemas to shame IMO.
-
Bird,
also look out for the size of the unit and how it will sit in front of your TV. With some combinations, the unit is in the way of the TV remote sensor, and/or the bottom of the actual TV picture.
For some of the BOSE units (where the TV sits on top of the unit), you need to be careful of TV weight.

were yours the Kharma $23,000 Elegance S7 floor-standing speakers?? Knowing the millions you earn a week with all the toys you have... :P
or the the Enigma Veyron EV1 also includes eight 15-inch active subwoofers weighing 210 kilograms each, designed to sonically and aesthetically match the loudspeakers. Like the speaker cabinets, each subwoofer cabinet is manufactured of 100-millimetre bulletwood and aluminium plates, forming a solid base that is placed on a diamond stand to decouple the woofer from its environment.
I would like to hear them just once to see what they are like.. but then nothing else would ever come close to good enough!
-
Why stuff around, get this and be done with it

Save your money...sell the idiot box...fuel the 4by....much better sounds in the bush ;)

that bites the sausage :( any reason ?? special subjects?
-
No just starting Year 7 in the school he has been in for three years. We did an orientation in November for a day as well on a Saturday so why they have to start this early has me beat ??? (and annoyed as it has ruined a long weekend).
-
Sometimes in life decisions need to be made. Kids? Or long weekends?
Geez I love my long weekends.
-
Yeah thanks. You bastard ;D ;D
Anyway I've derailed this thread enough, Back to sound bars
-
Just bought a Yamaha 4000 model sound bar and amp package from Eastwood hi fi in Sydney. Good sound, very happy with the price. The guy sells ex demo and carton damaged stock. No affiliation.
-
Sound bars are great for general TV duty. Book shelf speakers with a stereo amp would be better but less 'neat'.
I cannot emphasise enough to those using their TV speakers to stop doing so and get a decent (as opposed to expensive) sound system.
Add a subwoofer if you watch lots of movies. You will get more benefit from a sub than rear or side channel speakers. Finally you could swap out the stereo amp for a surround one with another 3 speakers and you've stepped up to a 5.1 system as cash permits.
Start with a stereo amp if you listen to music. For most people a 2.1 system is more than adequate for music, TV and movies.
And lastly, try to listen to whatever you buy in the shop before you pay for it.
-
AAAaaaaaaaaaaachooooo
-
So been a while, what setups do people use these days?
-
I bought this maybe 2 yrs ago.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/samsung/samsung-hw-n550-3-1ch-soundbar-with-wireless-subwoofer/639712/ (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/samsung/samsung-hw-n550-3-1ch-soundbar-with-wireless-subwoofer/639712/)
bought it cause the speakers in my tv no longer work and was a cheaper option than buying a new LCD.
We watch a fair amount of TV / Movies, but TBH, I dont really care for surround sound and all the fluff. The Sub makes a massive difference to the sound experience. This sound bar does the trick for us
-
Hi all
We had a Samsung music speaker thingy we used on our 8yo Sony TV, the speaker packed it in, we could only listen to the TV sound for so long. It was terrible, and very difficult to hear the spoken stuff.
I bought a Samsung HW MS 750 on special from JB, after shopping around and watching sales for a month or so. I would have loved to have bought the Sonos or the Bose, but they were both 5 bucks shy of a grand, the samsung was 559. We use the optical connection
Definitely a good investment, sound is much improved, and spoken stuff is much clearer. It will dial down big boom sounds as well if need be. I'm happy with it.
