Sheffield shield has been dead and decomposed for .... 30yrs+? has it ever attracted a crowd?

Lol this applies to most NRL games yet rugby league endures.

shield cricketers would love to see the approx. 15000 people that the NRL averages for each game...

AFL 34k

so?  so many factors go into crowd figures, other than pure popularity...

and not sure why nrl and afl crowd figures mean a huge amount in this discussion...

cricket has the money (which is the whole issue), even if current crowd figures for shield games are not as high as other sports...

If they didnt sort this out now, and there was no ashes, that would have finished the game in this country!

Damn... I was so looking forward to a summer with no cricket. :(

If there was no pay deal Channel 9 execs would have had to make some tough calls over programming; "Should we just do wall to wall Big Bang Theory or should we mix it up with a couple of random Top Gear specials thrown in here and there?"

If I was a big cricket fan i'd be pretty peeved the million dollar boys got beaten by Bangladesh, but i'm so over the Aussie cricketers with their going on strike, that I find it hilarious they lost to them.

Payrise wasn't indexed to performance obviously, how about team attendance then?

Seems there are a few Australian cricketers who have pay packets much larger than their hearts.
Get some lead in your pencils boys.

think they said on the news tonight...they've lost their last eleven ODI matches, and the last 15 games the team have played they've lost. They should have let them go on strike i reckon

2 days to go...and Shaun Marsh is back.  That dude is cast straight from the Shane Watson mould - the selectors are in love with him, yet his performances (and durability) continue to disappoint.  Is he really the best option at 6?  If so then excellent, personally I would have thought there are other untried options out there.  Travis Head (on home soil) for one....

In the end there wasn't much opposition.

In the end there wasn't much opposition.

exactly... both batting and bowling were pretty limp...

maybe will herald a culling of players for the last two tests... i think both broad and cook could go...

Fairly disappointing game as in no real opposition.. Its good aussie can win at home, be nice if they could win overseas.
Sort of like when both Poms and Aussies lost to of all Shit teams - *gulp* Bangladesh recently...

Congrats to the aussie's winning the ashes, you can only beat the opposition that turns up to play.
3 zip is a pretty good result, great effort by Smith and Marsh.
The DRS system has changed the complexity and the umpiring of the game, for better or worse dependent on who you support.
Let's hope Melb and Sydney see us with a 5 to 0 result.
As for winning away from home, they mentioned on the radio the other day visiting teams lose approx 70-80% of their matches.
