"Thousands of students join School Strike 4 Climate to demand stronger climate change action:

FFS, most can't keep their rooms clean, have no idea what goes in what bin, and are the biggest uses of natural resources.

Listening to some of them, it's like listening to a robot. :(

Whilst I don't disagree with you Hairs and I think these protesters will look back on their actions in 20 years and reflect that they really were naive, you have to admit we aren't exactly leaving them a world in great shape. The pollies (God bless em) should be well aware that many of these protesters will be voting at the next election. Unless the current mob can persuade them not to, they will be voting for anyone with a green streak in their policies. Heaven help us.

Like her or loathe her you have to admit Greta Thunberg, as a naive kid, got / gets a lot of attention. We who have many years of lived experience can find holes in her arguments but nevertheless she is being heard.

I don't think the kids and their views are going to disappear and whoever is revving them up will take solice from the numbers who protested this week.

We were out in the Grampians and Mt Cole area over the weekend photographing a variety of wildflowers among other things and I noticed in several locations, both in the Grampians and Mt Cole (on Mt Cole, notably in areas around the TV transmission towers) some relatively large quantities of the fired remains of the old black plastic 7.62mm blank from SLR/M60 days. Didn't see any old link though, but may have rusted away.

Clearly a training area and I would think the scenario would be defending the towers from a determined enemy! The use of (at least to me) what looks like mortars, even training ones would, I think be unlikely there.

I wouldn't be too worried about that old stuff
If it hasn't go off by nor it's fairly inert

But new stuff is different story, just casting a shadow over it can set it off

I've found a number of 155 and 105's over the years in our training area at Waiouru
I move softly well away and radio in the location for the ammo techs to blow them in place
If your not prepaired to stand behind our troops
Then feel free to stand in front of them

Ok, it's been a week, International Mens Day, November 19th. and still not a mention any where with the media.
It seems it didn't even happened.

Just watched a news article about apparently 1500 numpties blocking Newcastle harbour to prevent coal ships leaving over the weekend.
Every single canoe that I could see on the report was plastic.
I just don't get the hypocrisy of their self centred approach and wonder how anyone can take these people seriously.

Rhojef,
I've been listening to this the couple of days. The language coming from the state government. In my opinion is wring.
Along with the pro Palestinian rallies, the blocking of Israeli ships into this country, school kids protesting a climate emergency, the World has gone Mad :(

Mentioned earlier this year that we'd taken the old van through a FREE!!! weight & safety check organised by Caravanning Qld.

Just got an e-mail through to say that they're running them again in the New Year:

https://www.caravanqld.com.au/vansafe/

You don't have to be a member of CQ, RACQ or anybody else, just register for it & rock up at the appropriate time on the day! ;D

Well & truly worth the effort of throwing a bit of extra weight in the CT / van to get it up to normal touring load, & find out for sure that you're legal or otherwise. & while their are Transport weighties doing it, there are no penalties handed out if they find a problem, only advice! :cup:

Highly recommend that you give it a go if it's on in your area!

This was at the entrance to the camping ground at Somerset Dam, & have seen similar on the Sunshine Coast, just back from the beach!

A lot of years ago i worked at the Caloundra city Council and we had procedures for UneXploded Ordinance (UXO) as it was a reasonably common occurrence around Currimundi I think. All came from Battery Hill in Caloundra and they used to fire Northwards for practice.

Remember one customer service worker giving me a call saying an old bloke had just walked in and said he had one in his boot and where should he take it. She was a bit shocked and we kicked the procedures into gear and was all managed. His statement to the authorities was something along the lines of 'was digging up his garden bed and hit something solid with his shovel and when he uncovered he saw what it was and thought he needed to hand it in to someone so he brought it to the council in the boot of his car to find out where to take it'.

I remember thinking that the thought process was a bit interesting  ;D.

Ah the good old days

Similar story I remember from the GC, probably in the 70s.

This particular day was a very low tide, & there's a bloke working on one of the trawlers, moored near where SeaWorld is now.

He has a look over the side & spots a long, skinny shape on the bottom. Nobody can work out what it is, so one of them dives in & finds that it's a 500lb (250kg) bomb! :o Called the :police:, who called Air Force bomb disposal, who came down, lifted it into a rubber raft, towed it out to the middle of the Broadwater, sank it again & blew it. Water spout a couple of 00' high!

Best guess is that a trawler had picked it up out off Straddie, brought it back tangled in their net, eventually got it free, then just dropped it over the side! ::) Anybody's guess as to how long it had been sitting there though.

Post war, lots of stuff was "disposed of" out off Cape Moreton. Once the bay trawlers started working the deeper waters in the 70's a lot of this stuff got found in the nets and it was actually a common thing for the trawlers to just dump it again outside of the trawl areas. My dad trawled a lot in the area during that ere & I've seen some mortar shells that he'd found & have heard stories of phosphorous bombs coming up in the nets.

We have similar here too. The message is a tad more direct.
