$4k camper, older Aussie or newer import?
« on: November 27, 2012, 12:06:01 PM »
I'm looking at a soft floor camper sending $4k-ish.

eBay, gumtree and trading post have quite a few at that price point. I don't need a full off road camper, but suspect they are better built trailers with similar tents.

As a guide, and pending individual inspections etc would I get better value out of an older, more used Aussie built camper or a typical 'used twice' import (eg Mario or GIC).

This will be for a few trips a year, mostly destination trips ie drive, setup and stay, not traveling trips with several setups with shorts stays. I'm not looking for the big trip yet, waiting for the youngest to get some walking legs first.

There would seem to be a customline in the classifieds allready in that price range:

at that money, hard to pass up something a few years old, and either way, yoou wont loose out much if you want to swap it over for something bigger/better down the track.

Older Aussie will be better in most cases. The cheaper imports have tended to be "the most tent you can get for $$$$" rather than a well thought out setup. No offence intended to anyone with an imported tent, you can reply below.

I'm with Mace on this one. That Customline is really good value and if you do wish to upgrade later on, I'd think you'd get most of that back.

Have had a look, and will continue to do so. One of the things I would like, is a door in the 'middle' and I am also aiming at the next size up tent. THanks for your replies.
