A different look at a little bit of Fraser Island. (Pic heavy)
« on: November 25, 2012, 08:04:54 PM »
I'll update this further as we expand our travels..... They reckon up past Moon Point is to die for.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, i had the sh!ts we'd.... umm, make that I'd .... stuffed the dates for Kilkivian, so i was gunna do sumfin today, come hell or high water.
Up early, got some foods etc ready, gave the ol girl a quick kick in the ribs and a coffee around 6am. We were booked for a fuel top up at 8am, and we were on the boat and heading for the fuel berth by 7:30, hmmmm, things are looking up.
We topped up with 177 litres @ $1.59 per litre and after paying for that, i was ready to go home again...well, nearly.
By 8am, we were doing the posted 6 knots/no wash past the dolphin feeding and coast guard and once in the open limit area, it was 4,000 rpm and 26.5 knots..... arrrrrr, much better.
It a short time, we are at Inskip Point, but with a 7am high tide, no 4WD's were waiting for a barge.
Now, for all those that know or would like to know Fraser, we hang a left here and go around Big Mick, the last green beacon and are now starting our way up the Great Sandy Strait, the western side of Fraser Island.
Within about 7 or 10 kilometres up the strait, we turn ourselves to Fraser itself to drop anchor at a spot called Elbow Point.
We can't get in too close, as we need to be on the correct side of the drop off, otherwise, at low tide, we gunna have a whole heap of trouble.....  ;D
The now outgoing tide is running at decent pace, so we drop plenty of chain when we chucked the pick overboard.
The wife starts the coffee while i deploy our tender/rubber ducky. Geez I'm a handsome brute, with my movie star good looks.
A quick coffee, a longing look around at the beauty of the place and we head to shore. Geez, it always feels good to be standing on Fraser Island.
The stingrays have been busy and they pretty big too, as you can tell by the holes.
A pleasant walk around the beach, bit of a swim, got talking to a fisherman and he was telling us they were hand feeding the dolphins last night.
I caught a glimpse of the new baby dolphin called little squirt, which was in the feeding group last night.
A few boats were around, but not many, giving us plenty of space.
Back to the boat for some R and R and lunch.
It was during lunch, a small pod of dolphins called in for a visit... within about 8 or 10 metres of the boat, but every time i tried for a happy snap, the buggers dived down, so in this pick, ya gotta pretend you can see 'em
We headed down to the barge,  gotta a happy snap or two then headed back to port.
I really wanted to do Kilkivian, but this an OK second choice.....
Some pics to finish....
We deal in grass......   :angel:
Its nothing for me to move a large amount daily.
Nah, we don't have any kids, so that's a big help and we have a second hand 2004 Jeep and a second hand 2005 CT, so that all helps.
Hey Bruce, you want me to pay the fuel as well, geez, now ya making the cup of tea a tad strong... :D
Hey Jeepers, did you have a look up the top end north of Wathumba Creek? Be interested to see what the beach is like. Went all over it as a kid with the old man before the beach was closed to vehicles and always found it very different. There used to be a group that set up a nude camp every Xmas back in the 80's, wonder if that tradition has died out?
What about the sand flies & mossies? If memory serves me correctly they were particularly vicious around those parts of the island. Damnable little PIA's, why hasn't someone figured out a decent way to be rid of em?
Yea, nice little boat!   :cheers:
It is beautiful boating in the Straits.  Especially when you are luckily enough to come across a Dugong, but they seem to be getting harder to find.  Haven’t had my boat (just a tinnie)out for a long time, but I love it out there.  Maybe next year? :'(
We had some RID on, so all good mate.
A few March Flies were hanging around, but no bites.
I was just over at the neighbours place and looks like early Jauary, we're doing Mooan Point and up that way. He's got a 6.25 metre Cruise Craft, so with 4 or 6 of us over 2 boats, we should be able to have a good time.
Thanks for the nice comments on the boat too.......  :cheers:
Looks like you're doing it tough up there ;D
Loved the dolphin shot. Always happy to see Fraser photos even if there is a bit of poetic licence involved :cup:
Hey Karen, check this out....
Sorry, i couldn't lift the pic across.....
A CHILLED out New Zealand fur seal - most likely the same one spotted near the mouth of Kauri Creek two months ago - has spent the past two days living on a houseboat at Rainbow Beach.
The whiskered, free-loading tenant was spotted on Sunday morning sunning himself on the back deck of the houseboat moored in Carlo Creek. He (or she) was still there yesterday afternoon.
He appears to be in good health despite being a long way from home in South Australia, and was photographed on Sunday morning by the owners of Rainbow Beach Houseboats sunbaking on board, diving into Carlo Creek and then clambering back for a good bask in the sun.
"He looks like he is in great condition and has not a care in the world," Maree Van Oirschot said yesterday.
"As we watched him he slipped back in and out of the water, cooling himself down and then climbing back up to sun himself again," she said.
"He has been seen on the ocean side of Rainbow Beach but this is the first time he has been seen on the inside of the Great Sandy Strait of Fraser Island."
Sea World marine sciences director Trevor Long said after the Tin Can Bay sighting in September there were more fur seals than ever before appearing off the south-east Queensland coast but nobody knew why.
"Whether it's an environmental issue or a nutrition issue we are not certain," he said.
Mrs Van Oirschot said she contacted Australia Zoo and Marine Rescue but unless the seals are malnourished or distressed no action is taken
God's own country up here.  :cup:
Hey Jeepers - looks like a hot day. Why you wearing a fur coat?  >:D
On our recent trip to Fraser we carved our way through the shrub to Moon Point, loved the area and will definately make the trip west next time we're there.
As for the seals, we found one washed up on the beach on Moreton this year. We placed a marker so cars would swerve clear and let the Rangers know. I like to think he made it  :'( so hopefully he's the bugger sunning it up on the boathouse ;D
Hey, once again, thanks for the nice comments on the boat.
Don't panic, we're not rich or anything like it.... If i was, i wouldn't be mowing peoples lawns for 'em in the bloody hot sun.
Over 30 degrees today and 8 lawns done.
I started at 7am to try and beat the heat too.
Heres a couple more of the boat, which we are taking out again this Saturday.
This our bed, which does continue further in than the pic shows..... :D
This is the lounge area, which turns into a V shaped bed, and doubles as the indoor dining area. All the insides are done in white leather, which is why we don't cook bugger all in the galley. Most cooking is down out on the duckboard on the BBQ.
The bathroom is fairly straight forward, crapper, shower etc all combined.
Mrs. Jeepers getting some grub together on the alfresco dining table.
I haven't got any pics of the gallery, but its nice with polished timber etc.
If you're ever in town and the weather permits, we love to take folks out and share.
Nice tinny JC, might have to take you up on that offer and check it out!  kids would be fascinated with a toilet on a boat, and I'm sure they could change that white leather for you in no time  >:D
If I was a seal living in cold old New Zealand, I think I'd head up that way too. I found the pic of him sunning himself on the deck. That's certainly the life :cheers:
As for your beautiful boat, I could almost see you and Bryan Brown kicking back in that photo of the lounge there with a bottle of Cognac (or whatever it was that they had in Cocktail...is that showing my age or just my taste, or lack there of, in movies ::))
