Well You Can "Follow Me Camper" Anywhere
« on: April 26, 2013, 12:41:12 AM »
Hello all,

I have been a member here for quite a few years but not very active on the posting aspect (The electrical section scared me off) just joking. Some of you will know me from the Pajero Forum.

Sorry for all the pics but didn't want the dreaded  :worthles:

My wife and I are from the Northern suburbs of Perth and love our camping. We started in a 2 man tent 20+yrs ago and bought our 1st Camper Trailer in 2008.

This was a project from a local Trailer Manufacturer whose Son wanted a camper trailer but his wife said no way after 2 weekends away so his custom trailer was our gain.

We embarked on many trips encompassing, Nullabour, Port Augusta, Maree, Hawker, Arkaroola, Flinders Ranges, Cameron’s Corner, Bore track to Innaminca, Eyre Peninsular, Millstream, Karijini, Exmouth, Broome, Coral Bay and the whole West Coast.

A few years back 2010 I think we tried to get to Cape York and do the Savannah Way but the floods held us back. 52 water crossings on the way to Mungarannie & Birdsville, Big Red 4metres deep at the base. You can read our Journal here http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=10398

A series of events including the old Jimboomba Campers going bust, Follow Me Campers helping Luke (a member here on Myswag) led us to purchasing a new camper. See events here. http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=26237.0
The help needed and offers received here.
http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=27253.0

This had me visiting George and Theresa at Follow Me Campers to give a donation to help ship Luke’s new camper home to him. I had no desire to upgrade or even look at their product, we were happy with what we had, perhaps a new top at some stage. So while I was there had a look at there camper tops and were amazed at the ease of the gas strutting assist. Our old camper was the old 3 bar system very heavy and awkward.

After several visits with the seed planted it sprouted and a new camper was under way. George and Theresa gave us a very reasonable price as a trade in on our old camper and a new Frankland was ordered and signed on the dotted line. After another dozen visits and a few more changes a new contract was signed with all the changes and we left it at that.
We were not in a hurry for it so gave Follow Me Campers plenty of time to finish it after the Caravan and Camping show and Easter.

Well here she is.

Hi Wrex, nice looking trailer mate.  It looks like you have spent a bit of time thinking about your setup and mods.  Great photos by the way.

Great write up.

Couple questions?

Does the square pole holder come standard? Whats the tube from the rear, (with red cap) is it to drain the tank or fill bucket from outside? Whats the frame/bench thing over the bed? Looks like a hitch reciever on rear?

Trailer looks great!!
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

The pole holder comes standard on the top of the range Fitzroy model. George has designed it big enough to fit a 100mm pvc pipe to put all of your fishing rods in so it wont damage the rod guides.

The tube out of the rear is my connection point for my water to the drifta kitchen. This hose has an inline whale pump in it and the kitchen has a switchable tap. The red cap is purely for stopping dust and underneath is a male end of a normal garden hose. The drifta I have plumbed up with the female end so a simple click and I'm all connected. This point is also where we will fill both tanks from if I have access to a  standard garden tap to fill from through our portable inline filter.

The frame thing is a bench from Luke at Drifta. On a cold night we hop into bed set up our laptop on it and watch a movie. It has adjustable legs so has multiple uses. We set it up one night around the camp fire and everyone put the nibbles and drinks on it. The bed head is also from Drifta with 2 reading lights and is mounted to the bed base via hinges so folds flat on the mattress for pack up.

Yes it is a hitch receiver on the back for tow bar tongue to accept my Thule bike carrier and to be used as a recovery point if i should need one.

Thanks for all your positive comments my wife and i are very proud of our camper.

This might help my explanation a bit better with 100mm pvc pipe and poles in canvas bag.
