Have a look at this blokes jeep build.

It's definitely a different build than what we are used to seeing on the road considering with what he ends up doing, a dual cab camper jeep running 40 inch tyres.

Yeah it turned out pretty good.  Self engineering seems to be a thing in the States....

You wouldn't recognize Anthony Gobert these days. For those that don't know, he was an amazing talented Aussie bike racer who did real well in World Superbikes...

Yeah a real pity, I knew him back in the early 90’s when he was still on dirt bikes
At 18 he was winning $10k a week at supercross
Lost touch after he hit the big scene on road racing
Ant West told me he was last seen riding a BMX bike hanging out in dodgy places where you score drugs
Saw that interview somewhere, what a waste

Not so much a question, more of thought.
So last Wednesday our mother lost her struggle with pancreatic cancer, 81, today we said goodbye, a small service.
My Patents owned Taxis, in Ballina & Maclean. They were apart of the main streets, they participated in the Maclean Cane Haven't Festival for years. The hearse that carried my mother, we had organised to sit on the Taxi Rank, before it's journey to the lawn Cemetery.
We gathered at the Rank, dressed in Christmas atirer, Mum loved Christmas. Many of the local shop owners who know my parents, attended.
Some of the comments from passers-bys, What's a hearse doing parked on the rank. Why are you dress for Christmas, it's passed.
I didn't return a comment.
Then as we followed the hearse to the Cemetery, the vehicles that never gave way to the precession, pushed in, then blow their horns because we were driving slow.

Have people lost respect?
I was taught, when a funeral precession passed, You stopped, allowed right of way.
If you were wearing a hat/cap, you took it off, dropped your head.

Why don't people have that respect these days.

I have also witnessed this when a RFS member is being escorted, followed be RFS trucks, Lights Flashing.
Motorists push in.

Unfortunately , it's all about ME these days.
Maybe in some of the outback towns you will find people who aren't obsessed with themselves.
You did well with the funeral ...... ignore the ignorant.

much of it begins at home mate... kids having kids, no parenting skills passed on from one generation....
And not being taught how to drive. fair while ago now I saw a woman sitting in rigt turn lane with a cop obviously in a hurry - lights siren flashing headlights - she just sat there

As Keith said, sorry for ya loss mate... alll to long ago I lost both my parents. :(

Condolences Hairs on your familys’ loss, pancreatic cancer is a bastard, mate of mine lost his wife just last month.

You’re right, definitely a lack of respect nowadays, I find though it’s across all generations, not sure if it’s a sense of entitlement or just plain ignorance.

& in regard to respect, we were at Aldi a couple of days ago.

Our local has a carpark under the store, with both stairs & a lift going up.

As we were walking in, a lady in her 70s (?) had grabbed a trolley downstairs (don't know why, because there's more upstairs at the front door ???) & was waiting for the lift to go up.

Lift doors opened, & there's a young family, with their own trolley, inside, who have just come down.

Grandma stayed planted slap-bang centre in front of the lift door, while the other family had to squeeze out past her ::) >:(

Older people know their manners, & respect others, I thought they said ??? :'(

it’s an interesting discussion point and I love the fact you all wore Xmas attire for the celebration of a life.  My brother passed late 2022 from a ruptured pancreas (something I knew little about at the time) and we all wore Hawaiian Shirts (his fav attire) to his ceremony.  My mum who passed 9yo this week was renowned for wearing bright colours so we we all wore flouro sox etc. Big fan of doing this

Back to your point, I’ve been pondering in recent times after experiencing perceived poor behaviour in the community and it caused me to ask the question are they doing it wrong being ignorant by our cultural history or given our extreme multicultural diversity, am I being ignorant to their cultural history by expecting them to know mine etc.

More discussion to come but think the page might time out so time to hit the save button

Cont……

Let’s be honest here, most of us will be of English, Scottish, Irish or European decendancy and whilst with that comes a lot of good history, discipline and structure, history also shows that our cultures are not without significant fault against humanity. The Church who stood for many years in our world as the path of good and righteousness has clearly been shown to be a haven for miscreants hiding behind robes etc.  Sporting clubs and Coaches perceived to be doing the right thing by community and nation  have trails of human litter all hidden by people in charge.  Workplaces being run by tyrants and narcissists for too many years where wives and daughters suffered mental and sexual harassment all now coming out in media.

Now I’m not saying other cultures are without fault by any means and I’m sure there’s as much wreckage there too, more my pondering about ‘are they being ignorant and disrespectful of our cultural history or given our extreme multicultural diversity, am I being ignorant to their cultural history by expecting them to know mine etc.

I don't believe it has anything to do with cultural history at all. It's all about me and stuff everyone else mindset these days and yet, when they want something from others, they will bitch n moan and create a scene because they can get what they want, when they want it but don't give others a second thought.  ::) ;)

I'm unsure whether it's a cultural thing, alot of people don't have respect for others, whether it's stepping out of the way for the elderly, or a mother and her young children, holding a door open for someone else.
I've noticed there is an increase of people who spit on the footpath, people blowing vap or cig smoke at people in crowed environments.
I think some people in vehicles feel no one can see them, so their road manners aren't seen.
Or it could be that most people are so involved in what they are doing, feeling they don't notice others until your in their face.
I've been hit on a predesratain crossing, I was wearing Hivis, I'm of a fair size, the woman oppolgised, stating she didn't see me.
She wasn't on her phone, she wasn't arguing with kids or anybody else.
Watch DSh Cam Australia, and it's really scary stuff happening put there.

Anthony Gobert passes away

Anthony Gobert has crossed the line for the final time.
The once flamboyant superstar passed away overnight while in palliative care.
Goey’s battles over the years have been well chronicled and I have no interest in recounting any of them here.
He had his demons, and ultimately the demons won.  Alcoholism is what finally did him in.

Here I will reflect only briefly on my personal dealings with Anthony, which were generally all positive.
