Not sure about HemaX, but downloaded CamperX last week.
Not bad value with a years worth of HEMA maps thrown in for $10. Havnt used it on the road yet, but so far looks like a cross between Wikimaps and Oziexplorer.
 :D

Just tried to compare HemaX and CamperX.
Unfortunatley, hemax is also the name of a drug and where I am logged in from prohibits all websites reffering to drugs  >:( >:(

Hope it is not a flop like its predecessor.........................
But seriously, how many mapping apps/software do we need?

I personally use 2. Ozi and Hema.
Have Wikicamps to keep the missus happy.

The Exploreoz mapping app is goodun according to mates, which I would use before the Tripogy rebirth!!

All I use is Wikicamps and hema maps on the iPad and phone.

There are so many map apps etc promoted that most are much the same.

Gee how did we survive for so long using paper maps many years ago.  ;D

I reckon the bottle shop and pub apps are the best ones.

Hi,
I have used Ozi for years, even on an old laptop Pentium with 1:250k Toppo maps.
Then with a defender and no room in the cab, I switched to Ozi Android, along with the same maps plus some more detailed for areas of interest.

Last trip we settled on the Hema App and a years subscription to the more detailed maps from State mapping agencies. Interesting, but only in mobile data range. You can download along a route prior to being remote if you are organised enough.
Mostly we just used the Hema maps, same format Australia wide and detailed enough for practical usage.
Google Satellite Maps were handy for finding spots to camp if in a mobile area. Even to finding better spots further off the road in documented Wikicamp spots.
The only problem with Hema was being heat sensitive and turning off the App if driving into the sun. I need to mount it lower and maybe near the aircon outlet. No such problem in Tas though.

I like Ozi for Tas, as I have a full set of 1:25k Tasmaps, but Hema will do just as well most of the time.
Cheers

Years ago?? ;)
Its interesting seeing the look on peoples faces when Im running a club trip and pull out my old trusty laminated maps... You still need a backup for when that electronic gem breaks down....
Although its getting difficult now, as 4th track on the left on the map isnt always 4th track on the left on the ground anymore as the maps data is well over 10+yrs old...

Another sign paper has had its day
'After 36 years, the owners of Melbourne Map Centre have reluctantly decided to close down their Malvern East store and move purely online. We will still have a core range of popular products on this website, www.melbmap.com.au '
