I have a sneaking suspicion they're all trying to cut down on materials with weight considerations to beat ramping up emissions controls and oops!
https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car-news/recall-80000-vw-audi-and-skoda-vehicles-recalled-over-dsg-concerns/
Cutting it a bit fine there guys and more evidence of that in the new RAV4- https://www.caradvice.com.au/851813/toyota-rav4-recall-suspension/
There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

They're revving up small cap engines to meet emissions and it's beginning to show with the Ecoblues-
https://www.highliftmedia.com/ford-transit-2-0-ecoblue-snapped-timing-belt-and-camshaft-problems/

And the injectors running at high pressures-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUOL0eEXbA0
https://www.highliftmedia.com/how-to-code-2-0-ford-ecoblue-injectors/

A class action pending on the transmission-
https://fordauthority.com/2020/02/ford-10r80-transmission-class-action-lawsuit-filed-in-massachusetts/

I'd be sticking with the 3.2 six speed personally rather than the hand grenade-

How's those injector pressures and that biturbo RPM? Jesus Ford better stamp out plenty of spare Ranger bonnets  :o

The Yanks aren't stupid- https://fordauthority.com/2020/11/ford-transit-diesel-ecoblue-engine-scrapped-for-u-s-market-exclusive/

I can't get my head around an auto needing 10 speeds in it.

It’s to keep it reving in it peak torque range, I believe.

Think of an old 2 stroke race bike like a TZ - up to 10,000 you can walk faster, but 10,001 -explosion. 11,000 switches off.

Given the future emission standards I would've thought it'd be to keep in the rev range of least emission.

Yeah.... I guess.

Geez, I only fitted a 3 speed to the Zephyr for the 1/8th mile tracks and they are nicer on the street.
Would've used an ol 2 speed glide if it was all 1/4 mile.
