Dragged the boat out yesterday for its first 20 hour service

The weather was that wild at every set of lights people were looking at me like "you are crazy if you are going out in this"

It had nothing to do with the boat.

I gave up on getting an Austin Lancer bumper bar.
So after pissing around a bit, I got a MK1 Cortina rear bar, and flipped the bastard up side down.

Now, it was a tad wide, and I did have to shave just over 4 inches out of it, but it hugs the corners nice.

With the above, I also had to fabricate my own bumper mounts to hold the bastard too.

We just need to run a weld down the guts and dress it etc and we will be good to go.
The Cortina bar Shits all over the old steel monster that was on it.

I also got a metal sunvisor off a Datsun 120Y and adapted that to the mighty Austin as well.

I've been planning the paint layout as well....
due to the fact, i don't want to do a full inside and outside paint job.
And i'd have to pull the engine etc....

It will be resprayed in Cleanaway Industrial Bin Blue with Westinghouse Washing Machine White.
It'll cop a pale baby blue pin stripe down the flanks.... should look ok I think.

Shows kind of, what direction its going....

Oh, nearly forgot.. the previous owner, had the steering column sitting really low.
It was damn near in ya lap and needed to come up a tad.... 2.5 inches actually.

With the stock engine, the racks are easy to access.
Not so much, with a 2 litre Nissan sitting in there.

When I dropped the bolts out, the right top was a turd to get out and wasn't any easier to get back in.

After successfully rotating the rack a few degrees, I had 3 bolts in loose and then attempted the hard one.

For 3 hours and 15 minutes, I just kept going until finally , all 4 were locked up tight.

Yeah, you didn't misread the above, 3 hours....15 minutes. I was rooted by the time I was done.

Spotted this in a salvage yard on Tuesday, couldn't resist it with the grand kids on the way. Two full days restoration and re upholster. Before and after shots.

Looks awesome Pottsy.  Amazing how a bit of TLC together with time and skill brings these gems back to life.

I think my lathe would have 10yrs of dust on it, unfortunately none of that being sawdust.  :(

Looks like a Record Coronet Lathe, , 3 speed or 5 speed, I sold them for eight years, I just got my dads old CL2 lathe, enjoying getting back into it. Can be an expensive hobby
