With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

Saw this yesterday at the Tallangatta 50's Festival but there were other very nice cars there too.  Out driving today and a smick looking caddy passed by the other way so i turned around and followed him to the local washbay. Asked whether it was a Fleetwood as it had the squarish look of Jeeper's Caddy but it was a Calais. Bloke said he was getting on a bit ( like Jeepers apparently )and wanted a cruiser for the odd weekend drive.  This thing was a gold colour with 60,000 miles on it from Iowa and was immaculate. He got it from a bloke in Bendigo who imports them and his son got a car as well. I drove off and realised I forgot to take a photo but i wouldn't have been able to fit it in the frame. Bloody hell they're big cars.

Even had the venetians.

The old man had an EK sedan in this colour scheme. Eventually upgraded to an XY wagon and they unfortunately lent it to my Uncle in 1975 , when he came from Pommyland, to go fruit picking in and it got absolutely trashed. :'(

This is my old car. Been off the road now for probably 10 years, or more  :'(
It's progressed a little from this pic, not enough though.
I bare metalled it by hand, flicked it with a wash primer and repaired all the metal. It's definitely the best body wise, I've seen when bare, which was a pleasant surprise  :D (Apart from the previous repairs ::) ).
Still required about 9 repairs to the subframe, 3 floor pans, two lower guard and grill replacements due to poor repairs/fitting, inner guard repairs, lower door repair, door to wheel arch repair, lower quarters, upper C pillar, lower rear window repair, tulip panel replacement, boot floor, spare tyre well, PS outer boot floor, inner beaver repair, outer beaver replacement.

All rust is repaired now, metal all hammered up and filed where required. Wash primer is gone and whole thing is 2k epoxied. Body, doors, bonnet and boot have had a skim of filler where needed and in high build now.
The entire floor and under subframe is in 2k satin black. Engine bay is in 2k flat black. Bit more tidying up in the boot and it'll get a flick of the same flat black next.
Picked up a complete period correct new interior recently in Goya Red. Interior paint is going Yeoman Red. (Already painted some bits  :D )
Exterior will be white, but not the Ermine White that they were. Something a bit more crisp is the plan.

Front end is rebuilt, painted and back under the car. All std except with a later brake upgrade complete with 16.7:1 steering ( for when I go to Bathurst ;D )

Engine is built. A very mild 327 with Dart heads, Dart intake, forged crank and pistons, mild cam, etc. Will spin up around 360-380 HP, so very tame but with enough go for a nice streetcar.

Trans is also built. Shift improved Powerglide with manual override. Very mild stall to suit the cam. Diff is also built and under the car with new suspension and brakes. Running a GM 8.2" 10 bolt (not the Holden Salisbury) with HQ type brakes to suit front stud pattern. Still have 4 wheels to modify yet to suit.

95% of electroplating is done, both chrome and zinc. Redoing everything, light housings, door handles, light bezels..... Everything ;D

Half of the dash is rechromed. Still got some more to strip, repair, have rechromed then mask up and paint. The masking and painting of those bits suck.

Hoping to paint it myself, but need to paint a few more cars before I do. Want to be able to do this build 100% on my own. But at the rate I'm going, 2034 looks like turn key day  :'(

Hey mate, love to see some more up to date pics.

Love the shot of the floors.

I use to baby sit this HQ for Clarkie years ago. (RIP Adam)

From memory, it went 9.2 @ 142mph on the bottle or thereabouts.
It was as tuff as nails though, yet quite drivable on the street.
His brother has it these days with a 598 big block.

A parachute release.... every HQ should have one.  ;D

Some mongrel trimmed the dogleg.

Caveat emptor - buyer beware - should be the first principle of anyone buying a second hand car.

But a classic car mix up in regional Victoria that's left a man $110,000 out of pocket and facing legal bills for failed court appeals seems to have shot that timeless warning full of holes.

Glen Sell from Wodonga in regional Victoria had no reason to doubt the vehicle he had owned for 30 years was an original Ford 1970 XW GTHO Falcon - one of the rarest and most valuable vintage Fords on the market.

The car had a letter from Ford confirming its identity, which had been based on its Vehicle Identification Number.

An inspection by a Melbourne-based car expert as part of Mr Sell's divorce proceedings found the car to be genuine and he listed the vehicle for sale on Gumtree in August of 2013.

And when Lyle Walker travelled to Wodonga to inspect the vehicle later that month, it was in such good nick that he looked it over for about 30 minutes before agreeing to buy the car for $135,000.
