Title: Favourite PS/X Box/computer games
Post by: lino6 on January 29, 2016, 08:06:47 PM
I have finished a couple of games lately (on PS4) and am looking to what next. Just wondering what everyone else is in to and might recommend. By a long way my favourite has been The Last Of Us with Dying Light second. I'm into the games with a story behind the missions. Didn't like Far Cry 4 as much and didn't like The Evil Within. Here is what I currently have.

1 The last of us
2 Dying light
3 Fallout 4 (purchased today so haven't played yet)
4 Driveclub (played once)
5 Bradman cricket
6 Star Wars Battlefront
7 Plants vs Zombies (online play only  :'( )
8 Monopoly
9 Helldivers (SWMBOs game)
10 FIFA 15 (came in PS4 pack and still in plastic never opened)

So tell me what you have and what you like.

I'm on metal gear solid, ps4 at the moment. Wife has just finished kill zone.
Being playing GTA online with my son in Sydney a bit also.
And Iracing on the PC is my biggest thing I do at the moment, racing league Tuesday nights, GT3 cars and I normally host a few practice sessions for the league on either Friday or Saturday nights.

And camping games on iPad,  construction simulator can fill a few hours when you want some alone time and you don't read books. ;D

I raced online for many, many years.
The game on PC, was Grand Prix legends, which came out in 1998.
Requirements were a Pentium 166. When it was launched, GPL required quite high-end hardware. While a software renderer was available, for smooth gameplay a 3D card was all but essential, and GPL supported only two types: 3dfx and Rendition

It is more realistic than the more modern games, Iracing and RFactor included.

Many online leagues are still running full seasons today, with many, many mods.

A 2004 demo is available with some mods http://www.gamershell.com/download_6101.shtml (http://www.gamershell.com/download_6101.shtml)

Will have a look. Not an rfactor fan. But iracing is just getting better and better. Dynamic tracks that change throughout the race etc

We used to race on a Tuesday evening, a field of no more than 20, usually 30 to 40 laps, and do a whole GP season.
All week was setting up the car with the right geometry then Qualifying on Monday night.
This is one of the set up tabs within the game.
Just a litre or 3 of fuel too much and you were .5 of a sec out to start with.

If your into your shooters and want something more realistic and team play focused, have a go at a PC indie game called Squad. It has been released in alpha and currently under development but  highly recommended.

I have been playing it in my spare time but suck big time at it. Seems I can't stay alive long enough to finish a mission!

Might have to check out Mad Max. I usually youtube the game play to see what a game is like.

One thing I've found with some of the recent "Updates/All New Versions" are nothing more than colour changes and more of the same ol' same, even same maps without even changing colour!
:(
Specifically with COD etc. Poor attempts to cash in

Hopefully this (and Red Dead 2) isn't like that.... I don't like the game sequels though when they go 100% different and the game controls totally change though. Medal of Honour did this to me.

agree
never heard of this one, plenty of speculation on it, and 2019 for release etc...
https://gamerant.com/the-last-of-us-2-confirmed-552/

I'd love a find a challenging game where you have to find things to open doors etc etc, to work your way through challenges to get through the map (then again sometimes they are impossible if your not stoned to fuk), not just mindless killing..
Since I master prestige on COD, the fun has dropped a little..  although now people are wiping their profile and starting again to see how fast this time they can prestige... cause they start again as level 1, they get put in with lower players, and scores of 70-100 kills (usually 30ish and 10+) and 2 deaths are now common :(

Never could get the hang of an xbox/ps controller, so all my gaming is with a mouse and keyboard.  Been gaming since clowns and baloons on the TRS-80.

Loved the Battlefield series, used to play competitively in BF2 in the Gamearena ladder but then lost interest with BF2142, hardly played BF3 and just don't have the time to get into BF4 or the new BF1 :(
Big fan of the Farcry series, although Farcry Primal didn't really appeal to me.
Still play Starcraft 2 on a regular basis, the original Starcraft was my main procrastination source :)
Command and Conquer Generals - 1/10 of my life was spent playing that!
Can't seem to get into Fallout 4, I get bored with it rather quickly.

Must be getting old, most of the new stuff just doesn't appeal.

Yeah it pretty full on to watch the broadcast. They do a good job.

We started 30th. Finished in 20th after 4hours.  4 laps down on leader. But for us it was a win. It's a car we haven't driven in ages, did no practice and just went , stuff it, let's give it a go. We expected to be out by the end of the first tank of fuel.

I've been playing with my old original xbox a bit lately. Actually I have 3 of them in the shed. Started when I was looking for something to stream digital music from a network storage drive, and I loaded a newer version of XBMC (now XBMC4XBOX) onto one of them. reformatted the drives and loaded all the old game discs back on the HDD. I realised that I hadn't even played some of them, so been playing all the old shootemups. They are still slow at scanning the music into the library though, about 24hrs for 2950 albums :(

Was going to try using the PS3 for the shed music, but the fan is so bloody noisy in them. Plus, unless you have an original that hasn't had firmware upgraded, and you can possibly run Linux on it, the music interface is absolute crap.

Using a Raspberry Pi for music streaming in the house, loaded with either Volumio or Rune music players.

The PS3 version was Duke Nukem forever. When Duke 3D came out I wasted hours playing that. Funny stuff. Did enjoy the original though.

The 2TB green box sounds good. Do you have much music on it, and if so, how did you get by with the filename limitations? I was thinking of trying xboxify to rename the files, but remembering the problems with link dropouts when transferring files once before, I decided to go the network route.

Have heaps of music on it in mp3 and flac, haven't had any problems with filenames apart from when I ftp them from PC yo Xbox but that is easy to fix.

Yeah, I found anything that had more than 42 characters, or had , + & plus a couple of others, would stop transfer and give an "invalid file name" error. No big deal when I only had a few GB of music, but I couldn't be assed going through almost 1TB and fixing them.

After having a bit of fun with the grandkids on a couple of old original Xboxs, linked (with one in the shed, and the other in the house) I need some suggestions for games more suitable for kids between 6 and 9. We did play Ghost Recon and a couple of other shoot-em-ups, but probably not the best games for them. (they enjoyed it too much  >:D)

Basically what I'm after is multiplayer via system link, and not as violent as the shoot-em-ups. What would be good is games that play co-op mode as well, but I don't think they had any co-op via system link games, just on single screen setup.

Sorry mate. Can't really help. Being along time since I had to worry about games for a 6 year old. Lol.  Maybe some of the EA sporting games might be the go. Or some of the racing games??  If all else fails just get them shooting hookers and stealing cars on GTA5.

My son is living with us at the moment. He is 19, but I had a game of golf with him on the PS4 the other day that was good fun?  As fun as golf will ever be anyway.

@ Oldmate - Haha, wait till your son has kids of his own, then you'll have to learn all about kreeping little kids amused again. It's all good fun though.

@ Fizzie - Yeah, I did a couple of Google searches about kids games, and they did pop up. But just watching the fun they had with the shootemups, I think it's the interaction with system link games that's the real kick for them. Just doesn't seem right blowing up your sister with a hand grenade though....  ??? Or when they both cheered me on when taking out their mum with a sniper rifle at 500yds on the run...  >:D

I have a bunch of roms on the Xboxs already, with all the Amiga 64, Atari 2600 and a bunch of other consoles on them, but the kids aren't impressed with the graphics LOL, and after playing "night Driver" and a couple of others, I tend to agree. But when that was all that was available, we used to love them. Geez I still remember what a big deal it was when the first "Pub Pong" machines came out.
I just got hold of Shrek 2, Blinx and Oddworld Strangers something or other, so see how they go with those for a start.

Well you have the fishing sims, and the hunting sims, so that would be a natural progression wouldn't it? LOL
I have been revisiting all the old original xbox games, and recently played Cabela's deer hunt game a bit. But man it's a pain in the butt. You have to walk miles to find the deer, and they spook very easy, and when you finally do shoot something some guy warns you that you don't have tags for that animal, or that it is not a game species. I found it more fun to use the bow and do some long range shooting over the top of mountains. There is a projectile cam that so you can see where your arrow lands, and you keep making small adjustments to zero in on the deer... or whatever you want to hit.

Currently I'm playing Black. It's not too bad until you get to the lower level of the asylum, then it gets pretty hectic. Just finished Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War, which I thought was pretty good. Again this gets pretty hectic towards the end.

Been Playing COD for few years, and been in a clan that won Clan Wars 2 yrs in a row  :cup: :cup:..
I love killing people.. its fun. The game play is not bad, could be more even though.

IW is no real difference to the COD 3 before it which I play - its more like an DLC than a completely new game..  Just making more money as cheap and as quick as they can.
http://au.ign.com/articles/2016/10/27/everything-you-need-to-know-about-call-of-duty-infinite-warfare (http://au.ign.com/articles/2016/10/27/everything-you-need-to-know-about-call-of-duty-infinite-warfare)

The big killer of online play is that some people spend 18 hours a day 7 days a week on it, and you just dont stand a chance.
Also the way it sets up teams for the game is not exactly 2 teams with equal level players. Your level doesnt say how good you are..

Theres also a new one coming which is supposed to be WW2 which looks good, but I hope its not just the same game play with new shirts on the soldiers.

Has anyone upgraded their console by claiming it under warranty? I was at the gaming shop yesterday pricing up a bundle when the salesperson mentioned a new Xbox is coming out later this year. They went on to say that if I wanted to upgrade within the 12 month warranty period, they would give me a store credit for my console even if there is nothing wrong with it as they have no way of checking them. Sounds dodgy but if it's genuine it would be worth the $40 premium on JB's price.

That review listed it as one of the cons. Can't say I noticed it myself until it was mentioned.

Yeh Xbox one dude.

Yeah, Xbox One didn't interest me at all when it couldn't be modded and XBMC installed. I mainly wanted something that would play my digital music. I wouldn't have had a PS3 either, except it was part of the deal when I bought my Sony TV, and I couldn't get a discount for not taking it. Pretty happy that my old Xboxs are being used again, now that I have a NAS device, and the new version of XBMC installed. It's a pity that the PS3 couldn't be used in a similar way, as I believe the DAC and audio out on the PS3 might be better than the Xbox.

the game comes with basic russian trucks, as thats what it is about, all the cars etc are "mods".  They are available through the steam workshop for free.  just click on them to subscribe and they load to the game folder

There is map mods also, bit different to dowload, and you have to manually add them to the correct folder

Looks like I'm going to have to find a new game before red dead 2 is out....

I have just got through Uncharted 4 for about the 20th time and have got back into The Last Of Us again, but need something new. Anyone got any suggestions in the same sort of thing as these?? A mate recommended Horizon Zero Dawn but after playing a demo, we are no longer friends.... So anyone played something that takes a fair while to get through?

Sadly most games appear to be based on just pointless shooting.. you get endless lives per game ETC.

as I've said before I'd love a good challenging 'adventure/puzzle' game where you have to work out things to find your way though.. but those sort of games aren't popular anymore.. only pointless shoot-em up games :( like Pyramid 2000 was :D http://www.figmentfly.com/pyramid2000/pyramid.html (http://www.figmentfly.com/pyramid2000/pyramid.html)

We have the Xbox One, must mention I don't do online (live type) gaming. Just solo unless it's like 2 player with the kids.

I didn't mind Far Cry 4, also played Primal, sold them after playing through. I would consider buying the next one, not at full price though.

Assasins Creed Syndicate, good game but got boring before completing it 100%

Recently purchased Watch Dogs, it was cheap, didn't sound like my kind of game but it was more enjoyable than FarCry that's for sure. I've only done a little bit of GTA, I think Watch Dogs is probably better.
Definitely interested in buying Watch Dogs 2

Fallout 4 and Fallout 3 were pretty good.

Currently playing Witcher 3 (Wild Hunt) I tend to like the open world games, but I think it's going to take a fair while to complete. Verdict is still out on that.

Have Star Wars Battlefront but haven't been enticed to play it properly yet, only done a couple of 2 player things with the kids.

Didn't like Gears of War that came with the console, I think COD is better. Halo 5 also came with it  as well but I traded it when we finished playing it. It was ok and at least it wasn't too hard to finish (I was probably on easy settings though, not great at first person shooters)

Tomb Raider is a game I liked the sound of, will probably buy down the track.
Forza 6, normally I'm into racing games but lost interest in this after a while. I'd probably keep it as it could be handy if the son has friend over as not many games are true 2 player games these days.

Got Lego Batman and Minecraft for the kids. I played the lego one for a bit but both games seem to have sat there mostly as daughter isn't that into xbox and son likes playing the games that I do (I'm the Mum not the Dad...daughter is like dad lol..they not into gaming).

Anybody checked out CoD:WW2 yet ???

yes :( for me - bitterly disappointed - I bought the season pass setup too :(

By far the worst camping game I've ever come across. I'm a dom/kill confirmed/TDM /hardpoint SMG/Rifle kill ****s kind of gamer.. Worked for all COD's in the past.
I'm not a lay at the back of the map for 95% of the game and hope someone passes my crosshairs player - I ****in despise that Shit.. I mean these snipers you cannot even see a blip of their helmets 1/2 the time they are that far back out of the way

Black Ops 3 Shits on it. not by miles, but by galaxies.

Aimed at one market - to the point 'uplink' is now called Gridiron.

If your 12 yrs old and can only sniper - this is the game for you. Most maps are designed for camping and sniping..

Like standing at the back of an aircraft carrier behind a wall or on the bridge and just picking off anyone who actually like to play, hunt people down etc...

Another map - race to see who can get to the top and control a massive cannon train (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/callofduty/images/a/a4/Gustav_Cannon_WWII.jpg) hiding behind walls that nobody but snipers or a random hand grenade can get you through and again picking them off... another map a road with a tram at each end with no windows, and you can snipe with barely any of your body/clothing showing and snipe, and you can go down each side through the buildings but usualy you get some twelvie camped at the end of each room picking people off.

There is one map where you can run through 'trenches' and actually attack each other.. but I've found a glitch where you can hide off the map in rocks and nobody can see you, you run along the top of the wall from end to end and its very hard to shoot you and you can just wipe people out from there. if you cant beat em... :(

London Docks is not bad, but down on the wharf section people just lay behind boxes and snipe. In the buildings the men get out and charge each other lots, so that is fun.

Shot guns now have incendiary rounds that seem to be able to shoot further than a rifle and you catch fire and burn :D

The 'War' game is 4-5 sections and can last 30 mins. they are ok, but can drag on...

Lots more challenges than the past CODs, daily, weekly, monthly for different care packages, which usually contain just new pictures on ya grips.. pretty much worthless.

Add to that there is a definite issue with connections and getting stuck in US lobbys where when you watch the kill cam what you saw and what they saw are 3-4 seconds different. Your screen shows a close fight, his screen shows him killing you and running off before you even begin to aim  your gun.

The graphics are good.

Would I buy it again, no ****in way.

said it before be nice to have a really good challenging game where you have to think your way through puzzles.. like games used to be..
Still playing war mode in call of duty ww2 xbox. Depending on the teams skill some matches can get sweaty,  other can be easy,  but they are always a challenge

If you have gold you should have got the cave and the turing test with games with gold. Both are good puzzle games.

I haven't been able to find anything decent to play. Been getting back into The Last Of Us in anticipation for #2 to come out (sometime next year  :'( )

Still impatiently waiting for Red Dead 2 also...

I ended up playing through all of the Uncharted series that was a good game. I got the last Sonic the Hedgehog game also (SWMBO knew I was a fan from the Sega days). They have turned them into kids games now but still a bit of fun.

The only good thing about glitching, is glitching yourself and hunting down the other glitchers (preferably with a shotty)..  >:D Funny when someone gets stuck in a glitch though, sticking half in and half out of a wall. You can just walk up and sit a grenade under them, then go and watch from a safe distance... LOL

This looks insane!

Sources: Fallout 76 Is An Online Survival RPG

When Bethesda announced Fallout 76 with a teaser trailer this morning, promising more information at E3, it was easy to assume that the new game would be a traditional single-player role-playing game. But Fallout 76 is in fact an online survival RPG that's heavily inspired by games such as DayZ and Rust, according to three people familiar with the project.

Those people, speaking anonymously so as not to damage their careers, confirmed that Fallout 76 is an experimental new entry in the long-running post-apocalyptic series.

When Bethesda first teased the game Wednesday morning, fans and pundits speculated that it might be a Fallout 3 remaster or a New Vegas-style spinoff in a new location, but as Kotaku reported that morning, it is in fact something completely new and completely different. The teaser might lead Fallout fans to believe that this is a traditional entry in the series, but according to our sources, that's not the case.

Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said.

It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs such as Skyrim. It will also feature base-building - just like 2015's Fallout 4 - and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources.

One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online "service" games, but that's the core outline.

I got COD when it first came out in about 2002 and the next few installments. [Still have them].
It was a big jump from RTCW.
Got to have a run at the new one the other day COD ww2 and I must saw the graphics are amazing, but think the original was much harder to master.
Must load it up again one day, now there are widescreen hacks etc for the old games.

yea tried blackout, but not into games (like battlefield4) where people camp 500miles away where you cant see them and just sniper all night.. Didn't pay $100 just to lay there :D

Tried that new Apex Legends (its free so why not!) - and it was similar people that far away you cant even see a blip on the ground...  Mate has been playing Anthem pretty much full on for a week, and is top 5 now.. but says I'd spit teh dummy - it aint my type of game...

They change the game modes all the time. The new one you can’t really snipe. It’s basically a cops and robbers type scenario

I reckon it makes it more interesting when you have a mix of weapons and roles, including an overwatch sniper. It means you have to think out your strategies more, and be watchful of terrain and cover. Games where both teams are just rushing in and blasting anything that moves are dead boring. And nothing more satisfying than sneaking up on the other teams sniper and taking him out with a knife :) or on the other hand picking off the enemy one at a time on the run, with a sniper rifle.

Limited weapons, limited ammo, one hit kills and friendly fire on.  >:D

Added Wreckfest to my xbox recently. Good for a bit of mindless fun - and the online aspect is the same sort of racing as a general public lobby in a serious racer - same 1st corner crashes but at least its all part of the game in wreckfest

Hate finishing games too quickly.

Not snpers but shottys that can shoot further than a sniper rifle!
900mtr shotgun kill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9AfCXmmuQo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9AfCXmmuQo)

Footsteps that sound like an elephant coming by, so you cant sneak around (again delib to give new players a chance!), you can only camp...  That itself ruined it for everyone...
The designers have said they have made it easy for players to stay in 1 spot so new players have a chance... More $$$

Thats if you can get the game to run for more than 20 mins :( PC players are getting constant DEV errors, PS4's dying, Xbx1 crashing... Theres masses of people getting refunds as they just cant play!

Maps in the single-player and multiplayer of Modern Warfare have been designed to be more intimate affairs than those typically seen in other Call of Duty games. That means that camping is something of a legitimate strategy

first comment I saw just now from PC player
'It's basically unplayable for me now. It's fine until I get into action with other players. Ping is fine, then the FPS drops until I can't move and I obviously die. I have a 1070ti and a 4th gen i5. I'm well above the minimum specs and even when I drop it down the lowest graphic settings I can barely play the game. I guess I'll wait until they hopefully patch the game in a few months to run on PCs that don't have the latest CPU and RTX GPU.'

how about a pic since its better then making a full list

Main one ive been enjoying is astroneer because the devs update it monthly with new stuff and things to do and find like the luner lander for the apollo 50th along with a vintage viser for the helmet

another one is farming simulator 19 a fun game that basicly has you farm and try to make a ton of cash while upgrading your stuff, but of course me being me im never satisfied with what the base game offers so i mod the game files to their limit and sometimes it produces just crazyness.

This is what happens when i mod the width it can mow and the yeild per liter (https://i.imgur.com/3QVDPgz.jpg)

This is from the 17 game but where i learned how to mod the capacitys and width's (https://i.imgur.com/q5CjMOn.jpg)

I have posted enough at this point about games i think. feel free to ask questions.

The future of games.. make sure the grand kids cant get hold of ya credit card!

New hit Blizzard mobile game Diablo Immortal is facing backlash for its pay-to-win tactics, with players forking out up to $150,000 to fully upgrade characters.

In addition, the combined gacha systems mean that none of this is actually guaranteed. You could get very lucky and end up in a good spot, you could have to spend way more than this. Indeed, one streamer dropped $US4000 ($A5500) and came out the other end with nothing they wanted.
