2010 Fraser Island Members Trip - DETAILS
« on: March 19, 2010, 01:36:10 PM »
WHEN: Saturday 1st May - Saturday 8th May, 2010

WHERE:  Fraser Island, Queensland.

GETTING THERE:  By barge from the mainland to Fraser Island.
If coming from the north use this link for barge bookings from River Heads. http://www.fraserislandferry.com.au/
If coming from the south use this link for barge bookings from Inskip Point. http://www.fraserislandbarge.com.au/

Currently there a number of attendee's travelling over from River Heads at 8.30am and 10.15am.  There are also a number of members travelling from Inskip Point on Saturday morning.  This barge runs I believe from 6am.  Due to the unfavourable tides it will be best being on the first barge to hopefully beat the tide.  Otherwise maybe waiting until later in the day.  It is entirely up to the individual as to which barge and when you want to take it.  See specific threads for more details.  The return trip is up to you as you may need to head off earlier or stay a bit longer.

ACCOMMODATION/CAMPING:
From the onset of this trip 2 choices of accommodation have evolved.
Firstly, there is Cathedral Beach - http://www.fraserislandco.com.au/accommodation.asp  Secondly, there are the beach camping zones - http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/fraser/index.html
There are members booked into both places.  Of course anyone attending is more than welcome to choose another form of accommodation i.e. fenced camping areas such as Dundubara.  All details of available facilities at either location can be found on the respective websites.

Please be aware that permits are required for your vehicle while on Fraser Island and these can be arranged through your barge company or can be purchased on the DERM website.  Also camping zone bookings and payment need to be arranged through the DERM website.

ACTIVITIES:
This is everyone's holiday and you are all welcome to do as you please.  Anything organised while on the island will be conveyed to all members and it is your choice if you want to participate.  Nothing serious, just a drive or a game of cricket or afternoon drinkies.  There is a MySwag birthday bash planned and details can be found on its own particular thread.

COOLERS & STICKERS:
We have special coolers and stickers just for this trip and they can be ordered as follows - http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=5055.0

VEHICLE/CAMPER REQUIREMENTS:
I can only assume that those attending have an adequate vehicle and camper trailer for the conditions of Fraser Island and wouldn't be coming along in their Ford Falcon towing the 1967 Viscount.  Any questions you do have on this please ask and I'm sure someone will provide the correct advice.

I hope I have covered everything.  Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions whatsoever.

Cheers
Karen
