Title: Electric winch for rear fold
Post by: Maxy on March 21, 2021, 09:39:41 PM
I want to get rid of the hand winch on my rear fold camper and replace with an electric winch. Anyone done this? If so can you tell me how it worked out and what sort of winch you fitted. Load rating, strap or kevlar rope etc.
Thanks in advance.

I have one of those 4000lb remote control ATV winches on mine. Not the quietest thing going but for a single handed packup it is the bees knees. I already have a 12v andersen feed at the front of the trailer for the electric jockey wheel so I just plug into that. I could put up some pics but not on this site - too hard.

Hi GBC

This something I am also considering - can I ask whether you switched to a synthetic rope or somehow kept the original strap?

Thanks and sorry if I have diverted your thread Maxy.

Mine electric winch came with synthetic rope. Prior to that I had changed out the horrible strap to spectra rope also. Much easier to manage.

Thanks for your replies.
I have considered an ATV winch but as I am a tight ass and have an old electric boat winch I have decided to fit that. It has wire on it but I will change to Dyneema or Spetra line.
