Many travellers on the CSR and Tanami
« on: July 28, 2012, 10:34:36 PM »
Hi Swaggers
Just a quick thread to let people know that there will be a lot of Aboriginal travellers on the Tanami and CSR over the next week or so.  A married couple, Elders, recently passed away here in Mulan.  The Elder man passed away some 5 weeks ago, and his wife lost the will to live and passed away just over 2 weeks ago.
This coming Friday there will be a double funeral here in Mulan, they are being buried together, and we are expecting close to 900 + people from a variety of communities in WA, NT and SA.  The wife was the most senior Martu person (traditional owners CSR), the husband was one of the oldest Tjurabalan Elders (Sturt Creek and top of CSR).  A lot of the people will be travelling with white ochre across their foreheads, indicating they are moving for "sorry reasons", and will not stop for anyone...when travelling that way they are not allowed to stop for social reasons.
If anyone is inconvenienced by this, apologies are offered, but culture must be obeyed, and this area is still strong in true Lore and Culture.
Regards

Thanks for the advice Tjupurula and sorry to hear.

I have some friends who went in from the southern end of the CSR two weeks ago so should be well up by now.

If you havn't already, it might be worth putting a message out through the skeds on VKS737.
Not many people would know about the traditional customs, so hopefully 4x4 travellers can show some respect if they know about the situation.

Cheers
G

Hi Geordie
I believe that people at Cotton Creek and Wiluna are letting some people know, as many people from Jigalong, and Kunawaritji (Well 33) will be coming through the CSR.  People at Mindibungu (Billiluna) are also letting travellers know what is happening.  There was talk of shutting the CSR, but we stopped that from happening, this is the time of year when people want to see the CSR, and such an action would be wrong.
We will not advise in the HF network, as people could misunderstand, it is better that they hear direct from those that know exactly what is going on.
Your friends travelling on the CSR should be almost finished, if not off the CSR by now anyway.
