Been surfin many of the threads for a while (1/2 a bottle of Reserve Shiraz so far  ;D), most say they are using a ratchet style jockey wheel.

My issue isn't moving it around straight lines, pushing it is quite easy being a fat bastard and its all concrete no wet grass :) .
My issue is when I have to turn it while on the move getttin it in the shed - kicking the jockey wheel causes broken toes and is hit and misss, specially wen you have to recorrect and turn back!!!!! and when you miss the wheel, it causes a shattered shin on the drawbar.

What else do people do to turn their trailer when pushing it around the place on their own?? I thought about welding a piece of pipe as a reciever in the bottom of the jockey wheel, then using a pole to turn it... Is there something easier I dont know about for under $"Graham's Number"? Surely??

Has anyone tried using an old cheap ride on mower without the deck on it? Wondering if the trailer weight would be too much going up a slight inclined driveway...

Some are using this $400 gig... which is sorta what I was thinking of doing, without the motor..

Sweet Mr, nice site :)

Towing is kewl..
Might need a second brake controller though! The downhill could be a concern... Jackknife city!

I still think there has to be a better option for jockey wheel :(

I have used my ride on mower, no good down hills though, no brakes. :D

I have a rather narrow driveway that slopes uphill (my camper lives in the backyard, cars live under a carport out the front), so I bit the bullet and bought a powered mover. (Aussie Wheel).


Expensive at $2k++ but worth it in terms of no more busting a gut trying to manhandle the camper around. 

Also means I can just drive into my driveway and hook this up, and then spin the trailer around 180deg in my double carport, and then trundle it down the side of the house backwards ready for next trip.  Impossible to manhandle the trailer like that.

Bloke at MDC in Sydney used a 4 wheel motorbike with the hitch on the front of it, could nearly find a second hand one cheaper than some of the gadgets suggested.

Might be an option for those with the space and inclination to use one otherwise.

Second brake controller...........not sure how you wire it to activate the brakes though..........

That would be the point, instead of spending $2000 to move your camper around, you've spent $2000 on a fun gadget that can also move your camper around.

Did you check out the bring your boat along thing out on that site...........from $230,000 to $275,000 depending on fit out......no wonder it needs a $5k  jockey wheel.......

I wonder if they will expand to a helicopter / camper from $4000,000 to $4,500,000 depending on fitout.

Can you make up a smaller version of a shopping trolley base, like they use in motor racing. You know the what the hell are they called......wheel jacks, with the four caster wheels. A base plate with these caster wheels and a support pole and it should, be easy to maneuver around. ;)

That's what I have, my wheel dollies aren't the flash jack up ones, just like the ones described above, some 18mm form ply with 4 Castor type wheels under, means I can move the camper sideways too
As its for only in the shed i don't mind having to jack up the camper because the trolley jack is right there.

You can get cheaper copies from most places. So long as the space is flat and concrete (sounds like it is), they'd be worth a shot. Keep in mind, that even a little concrete lip on the front of a garage will probably be too much for the little castors.

Hi wondering if you have tried it on grass or up a grass slope?

I use the kids like a dog sled team when it comes to moving campers around the yard.

They work good in a pack and don't cost anything.

Yes I have tried it up gentle grass slopes. It works okay with appropriate tyres.
