The Intineray
« on: February 28, 2010, 09:17:14 PM »
This is it...

25th June 2011 to 10th July 2011

Day 1 Sat: Cairns to Cooktown via coast Rd.
We start our great adventure leaving Cairns, time to be advised, and travel along the coast road to the Daintree River. Here we cross the Daintree via the ferry and continue along the coast, through Bloomfield and emerge from the rainforest at the Lions Den Hotel. After a quick drink we continue on to the Endeavour Falls Caravan Park in Cooktown.

Day 2 Sunday: Cooktown
Spend the day exploring Cooktown, the history and museum. Also the opportunity to meet fellow travellers and go over the trip ahead.

Day 3 Monday:Cooktown via Battlecamp Rd to Archer River.
We leave Cooktown and head via the Battle Camp rd. We will travel to Laura and head up the main rd to Musgrave. From here we travel along the development rd and stop at Coen for fuel and refreshments then continue onto Archer River.
Option. Some members may wish to travel via Lakefield National Park and then join up at Musgrave.

Day 4 Tuesday: Archer River Roadhouse to Dulhunty River
We head along the Developement Rd to Bramwell Junction. Stop for fuel / lunch and then the adventure begins as we tackle the southern part of the OTL stopping at Dulhunty River. A great camping area with croc free swimming.

Day5 Wednesday: Dulhunty to Twin Falls.
We leave Dulhunty cross Bertie Creek and head towards the mighty Gunshot Creek. After the fun of conquering Gunshot we head towards Cockatoo Creek which is nice and easy and arrive at Twin Falls.

Day 6 Thursday: Twin Falls
This would have to be the best place at the Cape. There are a number of swimming areas which are croc free. This was the most popular spot from the last trip.

Day 7 Friday: Twin Falls
Another day to enjoy the falls.

Option:Some members may wish to head up the nothern part of the OTL and stay at the Jardine River overnight. Then heading to Seisa the next day.

Day 8 Saturday: Twins Falls to Seisa
Today we tackle the nothern part of the OTL. This is the toughest part crossing log bridges and taking on Nolans Brook the deepest of the creek crossings. We then head inland back to the Developement Rd across the ferry onto Seisa.

Day 9-10-11-Sunday - Tuesday: Enjoy the Cape
Plenty of time to enjoy what the Cape can offer with bushwalking, fishing, tours and trips to the Islands.Oh and drinking.

Day 12-13-14-15-16  Wednesday to Sunday:
Options Stay another day at the Cape or explore Vrilya Point in the Gulf. The choice is yours as on the last trip everyone wanted to explore in different groups.

As per the last trip this intinerary can change depending on the road conditions.

Thats what makes the Cape such an adventure the uncertainty of what to expect and the challenge of taking it on.

Can I suggest this gets added to the role call thread for this trip as it's confusing that there are two on the same trip... ???

OK. I see what you do.There is a main page and then two subjects. I don't often look at the main topics and just look at updated threads. Not used to this site..

Quick question. Will you guys mind if we were to join for a part of the trip only. I would love to meet you all and the timing the trip would allow us to do that. However, we would be taking longer than the planned trip though so we would have a bit more time on our hands at some stage. If w could work it out would that upset the apple cart (or camper, as the case maybe  ;D)

Are days 12-16 the days that will be spent getting back to Cairns, just trying to work out what days will be needed to get back home after that so I can book in some leave. Getting in earlier means it should have no chance of getting knocked back, i hope.

Correct as people can either travel back down some of the OTL and camp at some of the creek crossings, inspect Weipa, travel to Vrylia Point etc. We should all be back in Cairns on the Sunday.

We now have to be in Townsville on the 18th for a wedding, might be looking for somewhere to call the "home office" for a week.

I wouldnt be to worried about doing it solo mate. And if you miss the crowds Portland rds/ chillie/ lockart river is a top spot

McGirr
Somthing to think about on day 3 would be Coen via Lillyfield. less dust and couragations, and an easy , interesting trail.
Just a thought

Hey all,

Had to sign up for myself, as Geoff and I use two different computers, and the forum wouldn't let us BOTH look at it at the same time!

I have been looking over all the threads related to cape'11, as I have been getting all the info relayed to me till now via Geoff... Wondering if now that the trip is to happen 'this year', and the numbers of  peeps on the trip is locked in... if the itinerary remains as first posted?

 ;D great to be 'in'!

Is the itinerary the same as first posted - or have there been some additions/adjustments over the last 6months?

As I have never been further north than townsville before (Geoff has), am checking the trip out on our maps, trying to get my head around distances really (as well as planning 'hours' in the car for kids)
Cheers

The itinerary has not changed but depending on road conditions we may have to adjust here and there.

hi guys my name is Matt i have recently become a member of your forum. i lived up the cape for 5 years and thought i might mention a couple of places worth having a look at while you are up that way! chilli beach and the pascoe areas are well worth the drive absolutely beutiful with rain forrest meeting the beach, another top spot is vrillyer point there is no signs for the turn off and most tourists dont know it exists, turn off the development road to the left about 30km before the jardine ferry follow the track to the beach turn north drive till you come accross a creek and the fishermen amongst you will not be dissapointed. pennyfarther beach between weipa and mapoon and amban near arakun are also spots where the cameras will come out! its a shame we all have to live on time schedules hey! cheers matt
Getting there is no problem getting back is a different story
