LED Flood lights around the house warm or cool white / wattage?
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:45:02 PM »
Totally over those halogen with the strip globes. Seems they go every year?  Saw a 20watt LED the other day and it was great. Not sure if it was warm or cool white, is there a way to tell and what's best for outside flood lights. I want to light up the BBQ area and the side drive. Looked at Bunnings and there's for $70 looked to be the same as on fleabay for $15!

Happy for any other input.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Jim

They are great lights.

Depending on the wattage you are after, 20 - 30 watts would be good. If you like it really bright, go 50.

I prefer the cool white, but that's just my preference.

I use the 12v 20watt flood lights when camping, and run them from my camper. I generally don't want lots of bright light, so I normally point them up into the trees for some mood lighting... ;D

Cool white gives a very clinical, cold light that almost looks blue. Warm white is slightly yellow, more like a standard light bulb will give. I have LED lighting inside and have warm white. Tried a couple of cool whites and didn't like them at all.
Cheers, John.

We have 3 cool white downlights over kitchen benches .. warm white everywhere else 20W from memory -- The Penguin has a super bright outside light and had to fit a dimmer on it ..

If it helps, the light colour (warm or cool) is measured in Kelvin. Warm white is generally around 2700K-3500K, warm white is generally anywhere from 4000K up to 7000K.

Cheers,
Jono.

Hi,
I put 2 of these over our sitting area at home.

I went for the daylight because SWMBO needs accurate colour matching when sewing. (and I prefer it)

We got them on line from BrightGreen, very happy with the lights.

cheers

There are about 7 colours on the spectrum.  We have a colour called daylight (similar to cool white) and it is very popular and suitable up here.
If I was back living in the Hawkesbury area near you my preference would be warm white.
I would consider cool white in the kitchen and perhaps the bathroom.
