Title: Access to Tolmie Recreation Reserve.
Post by: Mace on October 31, 2012, 08:32:40 AM
As the FTP server is still down, I cant post up a new mudmap for you as its PFD Format. If i can get it in a form suitable for you all I will post it up here later.

EDIT; Now Done, see Bigjules post.

So, directions to the Rec. Reserve.

Take the Mansfield-Whitfield Road.
When you see the Fancy "Tolmie" sign on the left hand side of the road, slow down and take the next right (200m up the road).  The intersection has a signpost with about 470 finger boards on it, (Sports Ground, CFA, etc, etc).  There is also an old yellow Country Roads Board Shed  next to the road at the intersection.

The Recreation Reserve/Sports Ground is about 300m up this road on the Left, and has a big sign at the Gate, which will be open.  Drive in, Carmel & I will be set up on the left as you arrive, sitting there looking pretty.  Look for the old White Rodeo Twin Cab & Ezytrail with a grey tent.

See you there.

G'day Al,

So, we don't take the Barwite turn-off out on the Mansfield - Whitfield Rd ?

No, that takes you to the old Tolmie Road, which is much steeper and has more gravel.  Take the road thru Bridge Creek and the "wyndies" up to Tolmie. Butumen and flatter grade all the way.

Good Stuff Jules,

swaggers can now print straight of the screen.  If you click on the Map it should enlarge. The Arrow on the map indicates the approximate location of the Fancy New "Tolmie" sign, the Recreation Reserve is circled.

Mace,

Does this still apply for those of us coming down from Sydney? Google Maps suggests turning off the Hume at Wangarratta and taking the Wangarratta-Whitfield Road.

What would be the recommended route when coming from the north?

2 options.

You can get off the Highway at Euroa and take the short cut over to Merton, & thence to Mansfield.  Bitumen all the way.

Or, go all the way to Benalla and then tun south to Mansfield.

The first is probably 10-15 km shorter, but involves a little bit of sign post (or Navigator)  following at Euroa.

Google maps is correct.  A nice drive, although a bit steep/windy in a couple of places.  The Whitfield to Mansfield road is one of the most popular motorbike touring routes in Victoria.

The next weekend, it is being used in part for the High Country Targa, if you want to stick around.

is it possible for you to put a few Arrows or similar on teh turns, maybe just on cardboard or something with Myswag on it??

might save people who never go to that area spending days lost.

Ive made up a cardboard myswag sign for the Turn off on the Tolmie/Whitfield Road.

Sheesh, just saw my papercut account balance for photocopying!!  Up over $1k today.  Hope you all appreciate your tour guides!
